scratchcat
Hi Everyone, I just noticed a chip / hole on the side of my dogs canine tooth. I've googled vet dentistry which there doesn't seem to be a lot of in Melbourne. By that I mean an actual specialist field. I will book her in to the local vet tomorrow in the hope that they can refer her to a vet dentist?? Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar with their dog and whether there are such things as "fillings" which are strong enough to last in a canine tooth? Is there any other advice / recommendations that someone can give me regarding this problem? My dog is only 2 and a half years old, have just switched her food from Innova to Artemis, gets some chicken necks with dinner every night and gets either raw or smoked bones about every 2nd to 3rd day. Law
My dog has terrible teeth, one of her front canine has actually snapped in half and the rest are all worn down to the gums. We have had to have a few taken out before and my vet has always done it himself, he seems to be very capable of doing all the work on her teeth. Not sure if all vets are the same though. It depends on what has caused the chip, in Trixies case its not much of a problem unless they start causing her pain and then we take the problem tooth out but she can still eat fine and I've been told that a dog can still eat normally without any teeth. But yeah see what your vet says, not sure about fillings I doubt its even worth it seeing as they can function properly without some teeth and its not like us where they'd be embarrassed about having a gap in their teeth
Purpley
There is a good doggy dentist in Hallam - PM if you want details. He is a specialist.
Jumabaar
Link to members of the Australian Veterinary Dental Society. I would expect the vets here to be up to date with what is going on in animal dentistry- even if they do not specialise. http://www.petdental.com.au/avds_members.htm
DLB
Hi I have a dog that had an artificial tooth inserted in the front. Went to the university of Qld (which is no help to you living in Melbourne) but it stayed in there for a long time. Once I finished showing her I had it removed and her teeth now have naturally spread. She was only a puppy when it was done. It was fantastic and they did an awesome job.
