He has been working with greyhounds, racehorses, and all manner of dog breeds for years. I will share a personal story with you. I had a collie years ago who was diagnosed with spondilytis (not sure of spelling), which is spinal arthritis (she was 7yo at the time). My vet said she would not be able to walk in 3 months and to have her euthanased. Of course I could not do this so went to a specialist who said the same thing. A friend at my dog club told me about George so off I went. Well, George worked on the ususual bits (neck, shoulders, legs, etc) and then got to her spine. He told me it was twisted, had been so for some time and did not know if he could fix it. After a while I heard a crack and my dog screamed (not yelped), I'd never heard a dog do this before. Every Greyhound in the place wet itself! It sounds horrible I know but when he was finished my dog smiled, shook herself and trotted off like she hadn't a care in the world. After a while of examination, he turned around and said sorry, but I can't find out what is wrong with him. I can tell there is something wrong with him, buy the way he is walking. But I cannot find what it is. The only thing that he kept saying was, Looks alot like Wobblers Syndrome So he has given me a few names to contact, and I will ask around. A breeder friend of mine swears by this man - Barry Haywood 745 North Road, Cranbourne South 59 785174. He is a vet/chiro but I have not yet been to see him myself. I spoke to him on the phone about my puppy's broken leg as it's not healing as well as I'd like, he seemed quite knowledgeable about the particular injury my pup has. I know a bit about it in horses (becase I used to insure them) What about acupuncture? I'll do some research for you if you like and PM you with what I can find?... Unfortunately, Wobblers can often occur in Dobermanns - I have put some info on Wobblers on the Dobe Club of NSW website "Health" page - see link below (the page also contains some links to more info from the US). Ashley Posted December 16, 2004 Author Share Posted December 16, 2004 Thank you everyone for your tips and advice. The more I research Wobblers, the more I think that is what my boy has. It describes him to a tee. He has wobbled when he walks ever since he was about 4 months old, and now the last 2 months is dragging his front feet, so much he has worn down his nail so much so that his feet bleed. When ever I feed him he spins around in a circle and falls over. He also appears to be drunk sometimes. All tell tale sighns of Wobblers. ;) I will get him to a specialist in the next day or 2. You have to phone him and make an appiontment as he has greyhound kennels also his wife has a pizza parlour. Guest Clifford Posted January 14, 2005 Share Posted January 14, 2005 Hi Ashley, Located in Croydon. I have 2 Beagles and Sally, the oldest at 6yrs has generally been healthy. A few months ago, shortly after moving home her behaviour changed from being happy and cheerful to being quite 'sad'. She was reluctant to jump or be energetic but there were so many things happening at the time (new home, flea outbreak, new electric fence to combat a renewed desire to dig, blocked anal glands etc) that I was not sure what was up. We went to see the vet and confirmed that nothing was wrong inside and with some anti inflamatories she seemed to get better. Yesterday when I let them in, she was bright and happy, popped outside to have a wander and then I heard an almighty yelp. She was almost frozen, just looking at me, quite stunned. I got her indoors and tried to see what was wrong. We went for a gentle walk and she seemed ok and was happy, tail up and jumping around. However, last night whilst having a cuddle, she yelped again. A visit to the vet this morning raised a few concerns as there was a pronounced hunching of her back and a neck extension downwards caused another yelp. We have some painkillers / anti inflamatories, but I have stayed at home today (lucky I can) and every now and again I hear little whimpers from her when she moves. Apart from distressing me, I know she must be in some pain as she is a stoic little girl and rarely complains about anything. I was hoping to get something organised as soon as possible to have her checked out without going through the whole X-Ray process. I suspect that during one of her many escapes she put something out in her back and it is ok, but now and again causes her pain. Jill Farley from the Beagle Club recommended George (she takes her dogs there regularly) and on one recent walk said she looked like there was a problem with her back. Sorry for the long message!
