Vic Agility Website?

Are each states agility/obedience schedules posted in that states gazette?

Speaking only for Vic here - Sometimes but not always. Or they place a small ad which refers you to their club website but don't put the trial schedule on it. ;)

In Victoria the majority of clubs (speaking agility anyway) have moved away from listing in the gazette as I believe it is quite costly.

Most triallers are used to just being able to go to the website to find whatever they need. I know I don't bother looking for schedules in gazette any more and would assume many others are the same.

Not sure how other states do it, but would be interested to hear.

In the ACT we have to advertise every trial in our Journal, even if the schedule is late and ends up coming out after the trial entries have closed  However all schedules are also placed on the ACTCA website, and this is where I go for schedules, not the journal.

Although I don't like that we are charged to advertise in a journal, I do think it should be mandatory that they are published somewhere central that all Canine Associatino members can easily access, such as is done with the ACTCA website.

How does that website get the schedules to display them?

They have to be advertised somewhere for people to know what is going on.

Sway don't quote me on this because I'm not sure but I would guess that either the trial secs for the clubs email the webmaster or vise versa. Most of the club hold their trials around the same date every year, so I'd imagine once word got that there was a website the info would get passed along. Only a handful of clubs and the breed/group clubs seem to advertise in the gazette, and I wish they all would it makes it hard now with no website and if you don't have net access well....

I'd love to see a dog sport website with results and schedules for all sports in all states, but in reality it would be a lot of work to maintain and possibly just completely impractical.

It's a funny system after being out of trialling for so long I couldn't understand why there were so few trials, until someone pointed me to the website. I'd never managed to find the vic obedience site via google so I guess it's assumed you'd just get told about it by someone eventually. Not the best system really.

Everything used to be on the geocities sites - either vic agility or vic obedience. I have never had to use the gazette to get trial info until now.

Now the geocities sites have shut down, there is a new website as noted in above posts for Victorian Agility, and many schedules are put on the Agility Victoria Yahoo mail list. I have no idea if something similar has been put together for Obedience - thus why I asked the question. :)

I know I've always just used the vic agility list, and I have a rough idea in my head which agility trials are when. My issue is that not being an obedience trialler as such, I have no idea when trials are except my local ones, and I'd like to look at what is coming up so I can enter Darcy in Novice.

In some cases the trial schedule is not even put up on the club's own website so I have no idea how outsiders like me are supposed to get the trial info. :welcome:

I would imagine there was probably some chasing of information from clubs/trial secretary's to get the information for the geocities sites.

So if only some (in the case of vic) are advertised in the gazette how do you find out about them?

You don't :welcome: The three month thing that Vic does lets you know what clubs are holding what but that is all, no contact details....nothing.

I only consider entering the ones in the gazette because it's too much of a hassel trying to track down schedules that aren't printed. It's annoying but it's the clubs that are losing out from all the entry money lost.

That's really poor form.

I don't understand why clubs don't have the info on their site - I understand not all clubs have sites.

But if they do would make sense to advertise the event.

People can't enter if they don't know.

Is the lady who ran the geocities one going to run another one?

Not sure. Terry who is running the agility info site has said he will run that site as a temporary measure until Pamela decides what she plans to do.

And yes it is poor form - I think most clubs assume that us triallers know about their trial and will chase it up if we wish to enter. All well and good if you've been around long enough to know which trials are which. :welcome:

As an Obedience Trial Secretary I always emailed Pam a copy of my schedule so that she would be able to put it up on her website. I also made sure that the schedule was up on our club website for people to find.

I know a lot of Trial Secretary's also email other clubs a copy of the schedule. If they actually put it up on their noticeboard I wouldn’t know. But I know as a Secretary of a club I always photocopy copies of the schedules that are sent to me and put them on our noticeboard so that everyone is able to get a copy.

That's really poor form.

I have heard that at the moment Pam isn't looking to set another one up as of yet as she has been having computer problems.

I would be more then happy to start one up if Pam does not want to.

What's another dog site to run :welcome:

I think it would be great if you were willing to set one up. I would but wouldn't have a clue how to set up a website and I don't have the time to do it. However if you need any help getting schedules or any help I would be more then willing to give you a hand.

I can't speak for obedience, but in the past ALL the agility schedules were posted on Pam's Vic. Agility site so there was no reason to look for them in the gazette and I believe most triallers just went straight to the website which had all the information you wanted. This was a great thing because anyone could access the website, including 'interstaters'.

As Natsu Chan said, I believe trial secretaries were used to sending their schedules to Pam for inclusion as I have never known one to be missing from the site.

I believe (have heard from several people but it is hearsay) that she is intending to set up another site but not sure how long it will be?

For agility, there is an interim site which has all the same information as before so at least we're not missing out on finding out about anything.

But not sure if there is one for obedience as it's not my thing - sounds as if there is not at the moment?????
