ncarter
my dog got into a bag with heartworm tablets in it yesterday. Im not sure how much exactly he has eaten i think there was only 4 tablets in there (which is 4 monthly doses), 6 at the most. Anyway i didnt realise for 24 hours and he seems fine today. Just wondering if anyone knows how much would be a lethal dose?
luvsdogs
Don't really know. Many years ago my cousin's young dog ate 2 hw tablets when he snatched the one meant for their older dog. The vet said he would be ok. These days with the hw vaccination I have heard that they are given an extra large dose of medication so it lasts for the 6 mths or year. Kavik
My guys got into the heartgard once - they were fine. I called the vet though just to make sure. Don't remember how many they got.
Staff'n'Toller
As long as you don't have an invermectin sensitive dog then side effects start to happen at about 10 x the dose. My Kelpie x definitely ate 6 heartgard chews once, no problems.
Stitch
Well I think you can now safely say that 4-6 tablets is not a lethal dose! Your dog has proved that! Give the manufacturers a phone call on Monday and they should be able to tell you - their contact number should be on the pack. They will be the only ones able to tell you definitely.
