lucylotto
My Mum's Chi has been in the specialist referral hospital for 10 days after developing a creeping paralysis. He can eat drink and excrete but all limbs are completely paraysed. They say he will most likely recover over a period of weeks to months. Meanwhile he needs good 24hr nursing care. I was wondering if anyone on DOL has seeen this before?
Rappie
I've seen several cases of acute polyradiculoneuritis in dogs. Nursing care is absolutely very important until function returns, and as you've been told it can take a few weeks for improvement to be seen. Otherwise treatment is primarily focussed on supportive care until the dog recovers. I'm sure others will have personal experiences to share, but feel free to PM me if you wish. I have had similar with my rotti, paralysis with many different diagnosis' from vets and ortheopaedic surgeons, and everyone else in the industry. All answers for me, with a large older dog, lead to the end of the road for my boy. Determined not to give up I asked my vet about alternative treatments and was referred to a chiropractor/animal healer in Brisbane area - Jamieson. He was a wealth of information and my boy is like a 9yr old puppy now on no meds. He might have some info to help if you arent happy with the results you are getting. Its terrible but there are lights at the end of the tunnel, you just have to find them. Stay positive! Edited October 8, 2009 by Rottifan
