Dragon Whisperer
Hello, If you were to buy an A-frame/dogwalk/seesaw/tunnel, what agility code would you pick for it to comply to and why? (or does it not make much difference? - I hear ADAA can be harder). Thanks! Cheers!
poodlefan
Hello,If you were to buy an A-frame/dogwalk/seesaw/tunnel, what agility code would you pick for it to comply to and why? I would pick ANKC because that's what I train and compete in and that' what's mostly offered around here.
Mym
AADA, but that is because I train with AADA clubs.
Vickie
The only piece of equipment that I'd really worry about is the weaves as it can make quite a difference to some dogs. I would also have a think about the AF, depending on the drive/build of your dog. I don't do ADAA so it's an easy choice for me.
Kavik
My equipment is ANKC size, though I do compete in ADAA and the clubs I train with have ADAA equipment. At the moment I only have stick in the ground weaves, so have been doing both ANKC and ADAA distances. I am having more of an issue with weave bases I think as my stick in the ground poles don't have a base. I am contemplating getting some bases made up, not sure what distance would be best though
Mym
Kavik, let me know if you find someone who is going to make bases up. I would love to get some two by two style bases. I have a contact up here that I can investigate to make some as he made them up for a friend. In Aluminium too which is lighter for me to lift. Have had no end of hassall with weaves, pvc pipes and stakes in the ground, then bought a steel set off ebay. I have managed to use two sets as my set of six split. I am doing the two by two style, which is great. Now I have two dogs that weave four poles like legends - and then pop out As ADAA are closer together, wouldn't you get them instead of ANKC? Just a thought.
Dragon Whisperer
Hi, Poodlefan, I'm from W Sydney - is it mainly ANKC around there (or mainly ANKC everywhere )? The only piece of equipment that I'd really worry about is the weaves as it can make quite a difference to some dogs.I would also have a think about the AF, depending on the drive/build of your dog. I don't do ADAA so it's an easy choice for me. Hmmm... OK cool weaves main concern, good to know! About the AF, do you mean a high drive dog and a smaller build (or maybe a larger build??) wouldn't have as much trouble on the (slightly?) harder ADAA frame compared to a lower drive, larger (or smaller???) build. Out of curiosity, why do some people stick to just ADAA or just to ANKC? I actually mistakenly thought most would do a mix since, well, it's all agility *shrugs* . Thanks muchly! Kavik
I do both, but understand why some would do one or the other. Since ADAA jump heights are higher and the contact equipment is bigger/higher that makes it difficult for some dogs, especially those who just make it to the next height. The smaller weave distance is also more difficult. Also if you wanted to teach a running A-Frame, the size difference between ANKC and ADAA makes that difficult. I contemplated teaching a running A-Frame with the box method but once I had a good look at both A-Frames and saw the size difference I thought it would be too difficult to maintain criteria on both.
