jenna
Ok another problem with my 13 week maltese, Alba, Toilet training started off fairly good, i take her out side and she kows to go out there, and 1/2 the time if she needs to do Poos she runs around the Door crying, so i get to her in time. for times i'm not home or at night time she has a Pee Pad which she does wee's on just not poos only when im not home though, i had the Mat placed Near my blinds in the laundry and the past few weeks if she has accidents inside she always does it near my blinds in my dining area and living, luckily tiled! and it wasnt untl my partner said that she is going in those places because her pee Pad is next to the blinds in the laundry???? She knows her Mat is in the laundry but still wont run to it if she needs to go. If i catch her doing it i run her outside. I am cleaning the areas after each time she goes there. I have moved teh mat in laundry away from the blinds, but i think cause it's been there since she we had her.. she is used to the blinds now??? My partner suggested putting the Mat in the spot she goes to during the day... but is that just teaching her that it's ok to go there?? Any suggesstions??? Thanks, Jenna
Georgieboy
What are you cleaning the area with? Our vet told us that antiseptic such as pinoclean and bleach have ammonia in them and actually attract the dog back to the same spot... I just cant remember what it is that he said to use to clean the area with... We actually use a Bissel Pet Wash (upright vacuum cleaner that washes the carpet) and use the products that bissel make for their machines and this seemed to discourage George from going back to the same spot. There's also a spray that I've seen in the pet food aisle in the supermarket, its with all the puppy stuff and its got a green label with a sad looking black and white spaniel type puppy on the front (again sorry, I cant recall the name). Never tried it but might be worth a look?
poodlefan
Exactly what message do you think you've given her about where she needs to go? Outside? Near the laundry blinds? On her mat in the laundry? I think this is all very confusing. The easiest approach is to give only one consistent message about where you want her to go. Clearly she's trying to do the right thing but honestly I'd be thinking about putting in a dog door and getting her to go outside all the time. Is that possible? Yes i know it would confuse her, i am putting in a dog door very soon, just at the moment we dont have a side fence as the house is fairly new, so i cant let her out on her own just yet. my partner gets home in 2 weeks so will sort that out then . i take her out all the time when im home, and the only place i want her to go is outside, wehn im not home she has to use the mat. she was really good , but now just has strated going next to all the blinds cause i think she is confused, but i think she goes there cause i had the mat near the blinds.. and i deffinatly dont want her going near my blinds. :D

Right now, she's going to where you started her off.
