Anna H
Ok, I thought I'd try a new brand of food on my cats and bought a 3kg bag of dry and a 12 tin slab. They hate it! Now I've got a fair bit of food here, shame to waste it.... can I feed it to the dogs safely? My guys will eat anything and a lot of it so it'll be gone within days. I was thinking of mixing it with their normal food and get rid of it that way. Any reason not to?
Animal House
It isn't recommended, but won't do any harm in the short term. Cat food is higher in protein though. I would mix it in gradually with their usual food, to avoid any tummy upsets from the change in diet. It shouldn't go off, so do it over a few months. poodlefan
If your dogs find it tasty ( and a lot of dogs do), I'd be more inclined to use it as training treats than feed it as a meal.

Or a little in kongs like we do, dogs go crazy for it and will lick the kongs clean for ages!

Yup I use cat buscuits for training treats for my lot, they are cheap and the dogs go nuts for them
CareyJ
What brand is it Anna? Quite often they have a palatability return policy - if your pet wont eat it we'll take it back....or at least I know Advance do that. If you have to go and get another brand anyway...you may as well take the stuff you dont need back. Leila eats the cat food and Nell (the cat) eats the dog food all the time...I really need to be more careful putting the lid back on the plastic containers!
