charliehotel
I have a lab X that tends to get a rash on her neck if she wears a collar all the time. Usually I take her collar off when we are at home, and only use her collar when we are out. However we are going away to stay on the family farm and while we are up there she will need to have her collar on all the time. Does anyone know where I'd be able to find a really lightweight collar, maybe something made of webbing or an open weave kind of material, that will not irritate her neck? Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks
OSoSwift
I have collars from http://www.2houndsdesign.com/ They do various designs and they are lined with nice soft satin on the inside. They are the only ones so far I have found that do not rub off my Whippets coat when left on all the time.
tyra20007
The only collar I use on my dogs is a large linked fur saver collar. They are available at petcetera and are not expensive. They do not wear the fur or hold moisture like a solid collar - when used for walking they are not damaging like the 'usual' choker chain. This was the only photo that I could find that showed the collar well as we don't often have the collars on at home.
Tassie
The Black Dog collars should be OK - as long as you don't have the collar on too tight. Nice soft webbing material. Link is here.

I had one of those on my Dobe and it was great, but wore the fur off my Whippets neck fairly quickly.
Tilly
I used the Rogz collars on our pup and haven't had any problems.
malsam
u can try the herm spenger curagon fur savers or chain. The material is less prone to develop allergic reaction to the dog...and they won't dis-colourise your dog coat colour as well.
Bully
Maybe a web type martingale collar, as they don't need to be as tight on the neck as a normal collar. Callicoma Kelpies & Pet Supplies have them. Pele wears a similar one that I buy thru my obedience club. She does have a Rogz collar, but I keep it for "Sunday Best" as the chain bit rusts thru swimming at the beach
Golden Rules
Can't go past Lupine collars. They are soft, lots of great funky designs and colours, and have a lifetime guarantee, even if your dog chews them! charliehotel
Wow, I never realised there would be so many possibilities!! My google searches obviously need some refining!!!! Thanks very much for all the ideas, I'll work my way through them and I'm sure we'll find a collar that fits the bill for us. Much appreciated!!! CP*
I put my shelties in Ruff Wear 'stow-and-go harnesses' (avail at Waggle Wear) rather than a collar because its light weight and I can leave it loose enough so it doesnt irritate their skin or knot their fur. We do a lot of bushwalking and they can find a collar irritating after a while. Occassionally they wear a martingale but in bush I worry the martingales will get snagged if they are off chasing something.
