cry123
Hi everyone, I was just wondering what people have found to be the best joint supplements (if it is anything like horses it is how long is a piece of string!!!) I have one dog that is on Pentosan and it is working really well. I was just given another dog BC which i any going to start on something as well. I was just wondering what people have found the best? Also, if you where going to start a lot of dogs on it what would be the best/ most cost effective? My OH does dog trialling and has a few dogs, and present it is only the one older bitch that is on Pentosan, i would like to feed all the dogs something but i am looking at 10 dogs (maybe more at times). What would be the easiest and the best? Any info greatly appreciated!
Nekhbet
I use the human supplements as they are cheaper then the animal. Glucosamine/chondroiten/MSM comes in powder form as well so you can add it to their food. I use fish oil capsules as well but you can buy cheap tinned fish at Aldi to add to their normal diet
~Archie~
We use Joint Guard here. Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM It's designed for dogs, so I know it's being absorbed correctly, and that they're getting the right dose. And it doesn't smell. Mum's Labrador gets the powder, and my dog gets the liver treats. Mum buys the 750g size joint guard powder and it works out to be quite cost effective. As for horses, I also use Joint Guard in my old horse too!! :D

westiemum
Yep Joint Guard too here - and my old arthritic westie does very well on it. Oh a sylvet capsule helps a lot for the arthritis too. Cheers, Westiemum Edited September 21, 2009 by westiemum
Staff'n'Toller
Be aware if you are adding fish oil capsules that they are mercury free, or you may be causing more problems.
Akay
I used to use joint guard and thought it was a good product but expensive. I did some research and found the vets all natural joint formula and it is A LOT cheaper. It includes condroiton & glucosamine like joint guard but also has green lipped muscle and shark cartilage. I was buying joint guard and green-lipped muscle capsules so buying the VAN product is much, much cheaper. Joint guard is over $60 (nearly $70) for 400 grams and and VAN joint powder is just under $45 for 500grams. The VAN product looks less processed, don't know if that's a good or bad thing, I think it's good, but your dog might not like it. I'm as happy with it as I was with the joint guard. Vets All Natural Joint Formula has a much higher recommended dosage compared to joint guard, so it isn't as cost effective IMO (for my dog I have to give her 3x more).
