angelsophie
So I feed tobes raw chicken necks at night and royal canin puppy morning and lunch. He has been leaving the dry food lately and just hanging out for the necks which I am not happy with as it isnt balanced in itself. He wont go much for sardines tuna or salmon from a tin so I was mixing that with his dry to tempt him but he just isnt fishy. Once a week he get an egg usually sunday monring when were having hot breaky. So I have been taking the bowl off him after 15 min(I was just leaving it) and offering it again at next lunch ect. When he had a tummy upset a while ago he went from chicken and rice to royal canin gradually and I didnt give necks for almost a week. At tis time he ate the royal canin with gustom- flavour at last I guess. BUT if I put the same royal canin directly from his snubbed bowl into a treat ball he eats it - usually all of it over an hour??? Anyone else dog do this. He also treats the same food with loads of enthusiam if I take him for training or a walk and use it to treat him. as a side note this batch seems quite oily and is leaving a residue on his face so I am not happy with that. I may try a different brand to see how we go coat wise and palate wise but I dont want to have him think food refusal will get him what he wants. I have though about taking the necks away and making them more infrequent, He loves em and we dont mind buying them for him?? Also cann a six month old toy breed be given a chicken frame do you think? I give him drum sticks occaisionally too Thankyou Bec
Poodle wrangler
Eats over an hour? He isn't hungry. Take it away and give it back for the next meal. Offering a smorgasbord ---> fussy eater. Healthy dogs will not starve themselves I feed my dogs much the same day in, day out and keep them normal-lean weight. Never have a problem with eating. My mini poodle will tackle a chicken frame happily.
kitty
hey angelsophie... could be totally irrelevant, but we had a batch like that. Very very oily, and Molly wouldn't touch it. Turns out the OH left it in the car for a day, and i think the heat must have changed it somehow. It smelt a teensy bit different to the old bag we had as well. Suffice to say that bag got thrown out after one try.
WreckitWhippet
Cut him back to two meals a day. You can give him chicken wings, carcass, lamb flap, lamb necks ,( whole pieces not the chops ),pieces of roo tail, turkey wing ( you'll have to cut them at the joint as they are huge ) and other meaty bones. I have dogs and pups here that have worked out very quickly that raw is more enjoyable. You can add more raw to his diet and keep it simple, just keep it as close to whole as you can.
