Change Of Position In Novice

It has been a little while since I trialled in Novice(well trialled full stop really) and when I did we trialled under the "old" rules.

In novice now you can have a retrieve of the dumbell on the flat or a change of position. I know what the change of position was in UD, but all I can find in the new rules is that there is one.

What I would like to know is..

Is it always the same - ie drop from a stand for example, or one change from a position you choose to a position you choose?

Sorry if it is in the new rules somewhere and I haven't seen it.

Thanks Rubystar.

I thought that may have been the case.

I think that I will train for that and leave the dumbell for Open

That's what I'm doing. A lot of people are of the opinion you can lose more points in the dumbell than in the COP, and I can see why! So give you and your dog the best chance of losing less points :)

Funny Poppy has anticipated the change of position but has never gone down in the SFE. I do use stay for the SFE and wait for the change of position though.

The person that ran me through the ring on the weekend was saying that the judges had been talking about doing the change of position across the ring because of this problem.

JulesP .... would you mind explaining what you mean by this? Where is it normally done?

COP is done perpendicular to the normal starting post and to where the stand for exam is done. So far, that's been what I've been offered in the ring. I still have a keen, smarty pants though so I have to heavily reinforce the stand

Aaaahh, I get you .... so they've been conducting the SFE at the same spot the COP is done at. Thanks for that TSD.

Exactly - now they actually have a white marker on the ground (not related to the start post) and ask you to simply set your dog up (in a stand) in preparation perpendicular to the position at the start post. Confused the hell out of me initially ;)

Yes! I had a recall that went in an arc shape to avoid the land mine in her direct line at the Western Classic! :D

She's a silly thing, hates going near "weird" things on the ground. Like last week, refused to heel over a different coloured patch of grass :)
