persephone
Bites are 'ok'... vomiting up swallowed blood from a gum wound/bite is also 'ok'..but I worry that there seemed to be a lot of bleeding... The big concern for me was that the pup had to be carried out this morning, added to the grogginess and apparently very swollen face/head Amongst other things I would be concerned about a puncture wound somewhere else... But- I haven't seen the pup, and so hope I am worrying unnecessarily
piper
Hope all is well. So- I am wondering if you left the pup home alone? From what you wrote earlier.. if it were my pup- there is no way I would have left her home alone... just in case of more serious happenings... That's a bit harsh. I am quick to the vet with mine in times of concern and not keen on leaving them alone of not well. However I also need my job. Not all jobs are supportive of people taking time off for "just a dog". Not all people have paid sick leave to be able to take a day using that even. Right now I am lucky I am in a supportive work location who would not flinch if I told them that was the reason and I needed to take the time. 2 years ago however there is no way I would have been able to and I'm not sure what I would have done in such a situation. To the OP - I hope it is nothing more sinister with your pup and you get home to a happy bouncy puppy that has rested and recovered during the day

StaffordsYo!
Hey guys, Thanks for all your wonderful concerns and comments, I wish I had all of you living with me! Then I know I wouldn't have to worry about a thing! So... in reply... I did have to leave Boof along in her puppy pen indoors because I had to go to work, as piper pointed out, i wouldn't have been able to get time off to stay with Boof BUT I did ask my next door neighbour to check in on her every 2 hours. I came home to a well-rested, non-bleeding puppy, gave her a hug and took her to the vet for a follow up check up.... We found out that the cut in her mouth wasn't small at all, it was rather large and the vet concluded that that was possibly the reason for that much bleeding. The previous vet mightn't have noticed how big it was because of all the blood that was coming out of the wound! She was going to do a BMBT ( she said the whole name, but I can't remember what, then she told me the initials.. haha.) test to see if she had any clotting problems/ anemia, but she didn't have the neccessary stuff as they had just run out so she told me to make sure I did the test before Boof has any type of operation. In the vets opinion, she didn't bleed THAT much that they would be worried at the moment, but I had to remember to get that test done when I can just to be sure. So thankfully, no puncture wounds elsewhere, the swelling has subsided quite a great deal, it's still puffy but not hugely, she had some mushy food and she's happily sleeping on my lap now. THANK YOU for your concern and your help, I really appreciate it... this forum rocks! :)
puggy_puggy
I'm glad Boof is feeling better and the new vet was a little more helpful. I would definatley be getting the testing done as soon as possible. Edited September 10, 2009 by puggy_puggy
Tilly
Glad to hear pup is doing better. They can be a worry when they are injured. Thankfully I have a very understanding and wonderful boss who knows he will always come second to my dogs.
persephone
Good news!! Glad she is bouncing back !! Just keep her from chewing bones/sticks etc for a while til everything heals properly. Hope all goes well with the clotting test ,too . That's a bit harsh. No it's not- I was saying that if the pup were mine I would not have left it home alone. Simple. I would have done similar to what the OP did do - get someone to check frequently... or leave it with someone else..
atua
hey Im glad Boof is feeling much better. I once had a tooth go through my lip and it bled for 7 hours and because it was my lip they wouldnt stitch it up as it would of stayed moist and not of dried out. Will they test for Von Willibrams (sp?) disease do you know? Im pretty sure thats the blood clotting disease. Fingers crossed shes ok
