Janba
Hawkesbury is closed to new members - they have too many. Sat at Erskine Park 9-3 run by the Sporting Commitee. Cost is $5 for the first dog and $3 for each additional dog. You need to be a DogsNSW member. Sun 9-4 at Erskine Park run by the Australian Stockdog Club. Cost is $3 for the first dog and $2 for each additional dog. You need to be a member of the club which costs about $30 a year. There is no training this coming Sun 13/9, Sun 27/9 and the Oct long weekend because trial are being held.
Glenda Mc
hi could someone please tell me what are the days that herding is on in sydney at erskine park and hawksbury please, times, and dates and how much. we live on the central coast but are willing to take a drive to check it out.thanks in advance Hi there I live on the Central Coast as well - Berkeley Vale. I've been going down to Erskine Park every Saturday for the past 4-5 weeks. It's great - well worth the drive. It's is on most Saturdays from 9am to 3pm with an hour's break for lunch from around 12pm. It's also on most Sundays though I'm not sure of the times - possibly the same. Every month or sometimes more often they run a trial so it's not on that weekend. There is a trial today and the next trial is on the 26th September. I'm not sure what happens after the next trial. I think they take a break over Christmas but I'm not sure for how long or when it starts. I'll be asking next Saturday. Anyway, give it a go - it's really fun. My German Shepherd, Mysty, enjoys it so much I have trouble getting her in the car to go home at the end of each training day - this is the same dog who readily jumps into the car without an invitation usually! So, maybe see you there sometime

border_collie_bella
Hey, I too am interested in herding at Erskine Park. This has been the most informative thread I can find on the internet in regards to times and pricing etc! Thanks to all that have provided this information!! I have a couple of questions... My 7 month old pup comes back when called 90% of the time. The other 10% is when there is a bird, or a bike, or skateboard etc that she wants to chase. I'm a little scared that she may find the sheep more interesting instead of listening to me when called! Is this going to be a major problem? Should I wait until she is a little more mature? My other question is, can beginners come along any day? Do we just turn up on Sunday morning and sign up? Thanks again for all the info! Might see you all on Sunday 11th Oct! I wouldn't be too worried about your 7 month old - you start on-lead, so she won't get a chance to chase. Exposure to the sheep is apparently best done as early as possible, so I'd say bring her along! I go Saturdays and yes, you just rock up, pay your money and wait your turn. Just note that it's not on some days due to trials... No training on: Saturday 26th September October Long Weekend November 21st and 22nd My bc is 20 mths old, is that too old to start? Maybe even just over 2 b4 I get around to it. One of my guys is 18 months and he just started. There are some much older dogs just starting out, too. border_collie_bella
Well I had my first day of sheep herding at Erskine Park today and loved it!! Bella was a little scared of the sheep at first but that passed as soon as she realised she could chase them! She didn't want to leave because she was having so much fun lol. It was $28 to join plus a $5 joining fee. Before paying the money, they asked me take Bella to the sheep to make sure she was interested before I joined the club. Cost per Sunday is $3 for the first dog and $2 for each additional dog. During daylight saving it starts at 8am and I think it finishes around 4pm (unless it gets too hot as they would then close earlier). It is located right down the end of the road (go past the show grounds, follow the dirt road round to the right and then it swings left and you should see sheep pens on your left. The brick building on the left is where you sign up and pay the fees. Can't wait for next week! Might even start to go on Saturdays as well if I have some spare time. I'm glad to hear you & Bella had fun. I still haven't made the effort to do anything about it. Committed to my obedience club on Saturdays. So will they be running over the summer holidays or taking a break?
