nikitaken
Our puppy had received her 2nd vaccination about 4 weeks ago and vet also gave her an Milbemax pill for intestinal worm. Just wondering if its ok I start giving her Interceptor for heartworm prevention when she had taken Milbemax which is said to prevent heartworm if taken monthly? pipsqueak
I have just finished doing research for an assignment. Apparently you can give Revolution from 6 weeks of age (which surprised me!). Personally, I would probably ask my vet. Erny
Where are you located and how old is your pup? We are in Sydney and our puppy is a little over 3 months old now Ok - so I presume you're in a heartworm area. When I checked into when to start heartworm treatment I was informed by my Vet and also by others that I didn't really need to start him until he was 6 months old. Something to do with the heartworm cycle. But it might have also been to do with the fact that at the time it was winter. As it is, I have opted not to administer meds for this at all (I did start them but really didn't like what the drugs did to him, so I ceased them). If you're in a heartworm area I don't like to suggest as I'm not sure. Perhaps speak to two or three Vets over the phone to see what they would suggest? Or just your own if you trust him/her to be an open-minded Vet with a drug-sensible disposition .
Bullbreedlover
In my area SE Qld 6 months old was the recommended time to commence monthly heartworm meds. For my Bullmastiffs I use the monthly Proheart meds. I dont have a problem in remembering their medication when it is due.
