Cavalier
Has anybody who has had a suprelorin implant placed in their dog had it fail and end up with a pregnant bitch??
Ptolomy
I know of a male toller who mated and tied with a girl. We contacted the manufacturers who assured us that there was no way she would be pregnant. We ultrasounded at 28 weeks and sure enough they were right. sas
Nope, haven't heard of anything, best to contact the manufacturer tosee what data they have.

Rebanne
but surely you would still take care to keep them apart? After all there is no real way to tell when the implant wears off is there? While they say 6 months, with some dogs it might be 5 months.

Im not referring to myself (all my dogs are desexed) Im referring to a client who claims her bitch is pregnant (which she is) after her dog got an implant. There are no guarantees that another dog hasnt got to her.... Anyway - we are taking a semen sample from him this week to determine the cause. sas
I wonder if another dog got to the bitch. From what I understand the same size implant gets inserted into the dog regardless of its' size, my belief is that it lasts about 4 months in my giant breed rather than the 6 months - his mannerisms start changing etc.
Janba
How long after the implant did the bitch come into season. Sperm can live in the tubes for up to 6 weeks.
SwaY
I had my dog done, he received a 6 months dose. Bitch is in season, and he is not interested at all - used at stud many times. His 6 months was up last month.

She came into season 8-9 weeks after the implant was placed in. This particular dogs throws very distinctive pups (this is litter number 3 - very irresponsible backyard breeders of cross breed dogs) so should be very obvious when the arrive who the father is. Cavalier
Dog is having testosterone levels tested today. His testicles are extremely small and we could not get a semen sample from him - plenty of signs that the implant has worked! Regardless of this the owners still want a full refund and want us to pay for the alizin injection to abort the pups. If only they listened to us and got their bitches desexed..... Will update everyone on the testosterone results when they come in.
hilaryo
I would be really surprised if he was fertile unless it was a bad batch or something. My beagle (just turned 6) had the 12 month implant last March. It is supposed to work for "at least 14 months". Now it is 18 months since he had the implant and he still seems to be infertile. His testies are half the size they were before. He is a proven stud but we will not be using him for breeding in the future so he will be desexed. Although, I do think the effects are perhaps starting to wear off, I certainly wouldn't like to be waiting to use him over a bitch. It works a bit "too well" im my opinion.
