Ripley
I have the 'Oroton' effect, I have 2 handbags, a wallet and a keyring. Sorry, couldn't resist. Here is one easy way of doing an Orton effect, there are a few other ways. Here is how to do it in Paintshop http://blog.fotonomy.com/tips/the-orton-technique/ Edited September 4, 2009 by Ripley
persephone
LOL... I killed my photoshop - so am now learning to use THIS HERE is my first ortonising attempt pretty ordinary. Yours has great subject matter! Could be a bit darker tho, maybe??
Ripley
redangel, it looks like you have left one of your layers set to Screen and not merged it down. One layer needs to be set to Multiply in PS.
TerraNik
There's a video tutorial on the Orton flickr group http://www.flickr.com/groups/orton/
Ripley
If you are applying the effect to a dog or bird, you can use a layer mask to keep their eyes sharp so the effect doesn't blur the eyes. Ripley
I am no PS wiz at all. I was totally crap at it until I bought one of Scott Kelby's books. He explains layer masks in there.

BlenheimBoy
LOL...... HERE is my first ortonising attempt pretty ordinary. ... Persephone, Orton won't suit all subjects. I've found it most effective on images filled with fine detail - things like animal fur, grasses, leaves - images with lots of repetitive lines or textures. Especially where those 'lines & textures' do not form part of the image's primary focus. (such as the background) There's a recent dol thread here: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=175514 As with any post process effect, you can turn it up as loud (or not) as best suits the particular image. Here's a few shots my wife has taken, with a fairly mild Orton applied Giraffe (on dol) - (on Flickr) Mothers Day Cav (on dol) - (on Flickr)
