Orthopaedic Specialists In Sydney

Does anyone know a good orthopaedic specialist. I have seen three different vets for my limping puppy and all have given different opinions. I think it is best to see a specialist. He is a British bulldog and I get comments like "well it is to be expected in bulldogs". My vet has given me a referral to animal referral hospital. I value peoples experiences as I have not faced this type of problem before.

First vet thought leg perthes. We thought he had a fall on our steps as it was sudden. Second vet said a flat spot on hip xray. Third vet told me normal xray for a bulldog and it could just be growth. The limp went away but has now returned but nowhere near as bad. I am having difficulty finding a vet that knows bulldogs.

I spent thousands of dollars on trying to find out why my girl was limping.

Tony Black told me she had ED...no!

Finally went to animal physio who said most likely HD and it was.

Because she had been walking akwardly she was limping on her front leg.

I would suggest either Pam Short or Mark Hocking at Gladesville Vet Surgery. I took her here and they found she had really extensive tight trigger points. Put her inder GA to work them all out and she was fine. She noiw has tune ups every 3 months with Mark.

Good luck...it can be frustrating

Each of the specialist hospitals have surgical specialists with interests in orthopaedics.

There is the Small Animal Specialist Hospital in North Ryde (Andrew Marchevsky), Veterinary Specialist Centre in North Ryde (Tony Black and Stephen Fearnside), Animal Referral Hospital in Strathfield (Sarah Goldsmid and David Simpson) and the University Teaching Hospital in Camperdown (Kenneth Johnson).

There is also David Lidbetter in Parramatta and Max Zuber in Gladesville (both are surgical specialists working in private practice).

I second Gladesville Vet but I would see Max Zuber who would also liaise with one of their other vets (Rosalie Mathews) who is a 'Bulldog vet' and is very experienced with the breed. I took my Bulldog to see her and she was fantastic and very knowledgeable, Max has done several orthopedic type surgeries on my dogs with great results. Number is 9817 5758. Whichever vet you see there I am sure they will defer to Rosalies experience when it comes to breed idiosyncrasies.

Best of luck wherever you go.

eta: Sorry, just saw Rappie mentioned Max, so it looks like I've thirded him ; - )

David Lidbetter in Parramatta is FANTASTIC, my boy had a plate put in his leg after he jumped a fence and his leg (well wrist) & all the fine banes and ligaments around it were very badly damaged and David was amazing and did a great job........now you would never know that he has a plate in his leg apart from the fact he has no bend in his leg but he can still walk with no limp & beat the other dogs around the backyard!
