I am losing my girl puppy

She is doing the typical fading puppy cry. When i weighed them all this morning she had lost weight but was still lively and feeding well, so i gave her protexin and focused on getting her on a nipple all day. Tonight she is weaker so ive tube fed her, given her more protexin and she is warm. She has had antibiotics now as i dont have much to lose at this stage. Crap. ;)

Large piece of Beef Liver, little bit of water, simmer slowly, about 5 minutes until the blood comes out. Let cool, drain the liquid and put just 4 drops (no matter the breed) into a dropper and give to puppy. At first you give it every 2 hours for 12 hours, then every 4 hours.

Not looking good. She went from feeding at the boob and OK to, within an hour, crying and not cucking. Now she is paddling and arching her head back. Hubby has gone to get some beef liver and some fluids to give subcutaneous, but it think its a battle already lost.

2009 wasnt meant to be my year for successful litters.

Unfortunatly we hit the October thread. Cleo had to have Caesar last night as she started passing meconium yesterday afternoon. 6 pups, 2 where dead and maserated.

2 Tricolour boys 1 tricolour girl and 1 blenheim girl.

1 of the boys did not resusitate well and died 2 hours after birth.

They are obviously prem and are not doing too well.

BB I hope the remaining little ones will be ok...sending lots of strength to you and them.

Yes Ellz, it's very unnerving to see so many dramas but then they are concentrated here on the site where everyone shares their ups and downs...

I know Aziah, it just seems to be worse this year. Maybe it is the result of global warming or something uncontrollable like that?

When I look at the bitches whelping early, or not conceiving or reabsorbing (as I'm still inclined to think Ali did) or having odd seasons, neonatal issues etc...it just seems more pronounced than normal.

Oh no BB im so sorry. I so hope your babies stay well. Do they have a good suck reflex?

My girl made it thought the night which i am stunned at. Each time i got up in the night to feed her, i expected her to be dead. However, she is much worse than yesterday in terms of activity and muscle tone. She is laying flat and hardly moving at all, so i still dont hold out much hope. Im just keeping up with the tube feeding, protexin, antibiotics and beef liver broth, thats all i can do.

The 2 remaining boys have gained lots of weight and are fat little wrigglers, so hopefully it will stay that way.

Ellz, she has lost her suck reflex completely now, im a bit worried about giving that beef broth on the tongue in case she aspirates, can i give it with her milk through the tube or does it have to be on the tongue?

Oh OK i thought you said put 4 drops on her tongue, which as fine when she was sucking, now she is not.

There seems to be much debate about whether to tube feed or not and i can see why you shouldnt, considering she most likely doesnt have any peristalsis to digest the milk. Ive only been giving her 3mls 4-5 hourly and she seems to be emptying her stomach.

Next time ill just give her the beef broth down the tube then instead of milk. How much broth would you tube feed a 300gram pup then Ellz?
