Kristina
Need some info for a friend, she has a pointer, he's a few years old, entire. Recently started to drip blood, so after tests, etc, the vet told her that they can only feed him special food which will cost them around $50 a wk as they have to buy from vets. It's something about ph levels having to be a certain level, etc. Just wondering if there's an alternative, i'd think there would be. Surely there's a diet that they can make themselves. If anyone has any ideas or experience, would be great. Have to say, i feel like saying to her, told ya so. They bought him from a pet shop as he was last one, going very cheap as he was getting old and was close to being put down. Who knows where he's from. Ah well. Now just have to work on getting him sorted and keeping their bill down.
shmoo
What is the special food they have been prescribed? Can they get it cheaper online? (vetnpetdirect.com or similar) Why was the food prescribed exactly? (what is his condition?) My boy was recently diagnosed with Diabetes and has to eat Royal Canin Digestive Low Fat BUT as a treat I can give him roast chicken (preferably the brest as it's least fatty)
4Kelpies
Do you know what is causing the condition ? I have a lot of faith in Lew Olsen at B-Naturals. Here are some links which include diets for different conditions. http://www.b-naturals.com/newsletter/utis/ http://www.b-naturals.com/newsletter/categ...bladder-stones/ http://www.b-naturals.com/newsletter/category/kidney/ You would need more details and test results from the vet before you started on any alternate treatment. Kristina
Thanks. Not sure exactly why he's got it. Just know it's a urinary thing, the vet said his diet has been too high in ph and that his food needs certain levels and so he's on urinary food. I'm guessing it's the ID food. hopenfox
Nicky had this! He was dripping blood when urinating and the vet said it was a PH thing. She suggested we give him a vitamin C tablet every day to correct it. It worked! In a few days, the blood cleared up and the problem never returned. Staff'n'Toller
There is a condition in Dals and it can get quite serious. PM The spotted devil- she is familiar with it.
