Seven
Been looking around for a crate for a puppy to use for awhile (Labrador) After going on ebay and different site I found the local pet shop had a 42" black collapsible with divider etc for $165. I think this is a good price as all I can find similar is $99 + 14 (divider) and $50 delivery here in Adelaide. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas where to get them maybe cheaper or even second hand.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas where to get them maybe cheaper or even second hand. I bought mine on ebay and it was $15 to Brisbane from Sydney. Mind you, it is a beautiful crate but it was supersize and the ad was basically a large, I measured their dimensions next to my present crate and when it arrived it was enormous. However, on Saturday I was glad as it was really hot and my boy could really stretch out. So with freight, my pony sized crate was $85.

hopenfox
Have you looked at the ones at Deals Direct? I'm very happy with the one I got from there and the prices are great!
Joan of Arc
Cant give you a comparison price but suggest you get a couple of quotes from dog show vans such as Groomers & Classic Show Supplies. I have a size 42 and its fantastic for grown labs.
J...
Try Vebo (they advertise on here - go to the advertisers page). They have the best price I've found so far on the 36" I'm looking at in terms of metal crates. For a soft crate, I reckon the K9 softcrates are brilliant and the service excellent, very friendly and helpful. They are on their own website but on ebay as well, I got one just recently for Zee and scored a free carry bag as well.
Mym
Ah Jess, I think we may have bought the same crate. It has this zip bag on the top which is brilliant for toys etc. Mine came from Topbuyaustralia on ebay - managed to get the pic for you just now. Ignore the dimensions because they were incorrect. This crate is enormous. Edited August 31, 2009 by Mym

Haven't rang them yet, but what size did you get and are they the black or galvanized ones.
RubyStar
To those who have purchased soft crates, what size do you recommend for a Labrador? I'm after one that isn't overly expensive, big enough for a Lab, and doesn't cost the earth in postage either! It doesn't have to be top quality, as it isn't going to be used unsupervised. I just need a portable crate to pop one dog in while I work the other nearby and it's too hard to lug the metal collapsible crate everywhere! Mym
I have rough collies and I have crates that are probably by most standards too big. Even I thought they were too big. But they are great for dogs to stretch out in - and last Saturday when my boy was in his crate a lot, he could really get comfy, he lies on his belly with legs out behind him. I guess you also have to check you boot/car room. The XXXL that I have does make it a bit cramped.

Seven
ended up getting a black one 42" with 2 doors and a divider while pup is young. Down the track should make a good sized kennel as well with a canvas tarp over it. Went for the bigger one due to can use is as pup gets older and if we need to keep out of harms way down the track. Darcy has a 42" soft crate for trialling which gives her plenty of room to completely stretch out in (she's 22 kg - Lab x). She fits in Zee's new 36" soft crate and while she can still lay flat in it, it's a bit more snug. Fine for short term like training, but I'd prefer to have her in the bigger crate if it was warm just to give her a bit more airflow.
