luffy4688 Posted August 23, 2009 Share Posted August 23, 2009 My 8 week old corgi Bailey has been having diarhhoea once a day for the past 3 days. It's watery, stinks and it contain the kibbles and liver treats that he ate, all still solid. He has been feed the same diet since I got him a little more than a week ago and he has not had diarrhoea until 3 days ago. He's being fed beef mince, chicken necks and kibble but seperately depending on which meal. He's still behaving normally. Active, running around, jumping and all. I hope you guys could provide me some input on this. Should I bring him to a vet? Could it be his diet etc. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Gretel Posted August 23, 2009 Share Posted August 23, 2009 His little tummy needs a rest. I'd miss one meal and then for his next meal just give him some boiled rice and a little cooked chicken. You can mix a little cornflour in too and that will help firm up his stools. About a teaspoonful. If this does not give improvement I'd have him off to the vet tomorrow. Chicken breast and pumpkin cooked in a little salt reduced chicken stock and water with a bit of "inner health plus" added was then only thing that helped him. I fed him this for a couple of days and then slowly added a little of his normal food. Is he still drinking well? Is he still well in himself? Brought him to vet 1st thing in the morning and the vet said he seems fine and suggested lean chicken with rice. Gave it to him for lunch. He pooped a while ago but it's still runny. Not much improvement. Should I be worried? Each time last night when he pooped in his crate he would be barking and whining and I had to let him out to clean up the crate. What I'm worried at the moment is he'll think that barking and whining will get him out of the crate when I've just started seeing results with calm in crate=good. Any suggestions here? He doesn't pee in his crate because as soon as I bring him to his spot after I take him out he pees, and quite a bit. So I'll be assuming he's holding it in while in the crate. ellz Posted August 24, 2009 Share Posted August 24, 2009 The bad news is that until his tummy is sorted, crate training will have to take a back seat. If he's holding his wee, the message about the crate is obviously in his head, but sometimes the urge to do a yucky bowel movement is just so overwhelming that it cannot be pre-empted. The best you can do for now is to keep cleaning his crate properly and answer him as SOON as he cries, you may be able to get to him before he soils his bed. Aziah Posted August 25, 2009 Share Posted August 25, 2009 I'd not feed him for a full 24 hours, then I'd give small amounts of chicken and rice (small amounts!)... Plan to keep up the same diet for the rest of the week at least before slowly introducing kibble etc. In the meantime, I was wondering if I could start give him some treats again for training purposes and if so, what healthier treats would u suggest? Tilly Posted August 25, 2009 Share Posted August 25, 2009 I would stick to chicken for the time being. My boys definately love a little roast chicken when it comes to training. The other thing my boys love is lamb and beef puffs which are basically dried lamb and beef (similar to liver treats but I find liver gives my boys the runs). Since last Monday I've been feeding him just boiled rice and lean chicken breast and by Wed or Thurs he's poo was back to normal. I started reintroducing a bit of Eagle pack puppy kibble into his diet again yesterday and today he's started having runny poo again. I'm gonna go back to just boiled rice and chicken again. In the meantime, I would like to seek couple of advice: 1: Did I started reintroducing kibble again too quickly? 2. Could it be the Eagle pack puppy kibble and should I try a different brand?
