Diet For A Puppy.

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm currently feeding my 8 week old corgi, Bailey this:

Brekky and dinner: Human grade beef mince and Eagle puppy kibble.

Lunch: Chicken necks.

This was the diet given by the breeder and I've been using it since I got him a week ago, although I've changed the kibble from Eagle to Proplan. He seems to be doing fine with the current diet, was just wondering on how I could improve and mix it up a little.

Are they other bones that are safe for a puppy besides chicken necks? For example chicken wings?

Any advices or opinions will be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You shouldn't change the brand of dry food quickly - it should be done slowly...what you're feeding now is fine though I'd be inclined to the beef mince/chicken necks in the morning and the dry as a seperate meal later in the day because meat/dry don't digest at the same rate.

Check out the raw feeding threads in this sub-forum, there is tonnes of info

Lamb brisket bones are easy for puppies to manage and good for their oral health. Chicken wings are fine, although very high in fat so feed them sparingly if you're puppy is inclined to be a bit squishy.

Some other ideas........tinned sardines in oil; eggs; raw carrots and apples for chewing on; whole raw drumsticks. Just introduce things gradually, just as you would for a human baby and eventually give the dog a wide variety of wholesome food.

Thanks for the advice. Is there a reason that we feed raw in the morning and dry as a seperate meal later? Could it be done the other way round? Not trying to question your advice, just want to find out why. It's my 1st puppy, so I'm keen to learn more.
