Puppy Vaccs Timing

Hi all,

Just wondering what the vaccination timing is for young pups these days?

My young pup was had her first vacc on the 29th July at 9 weeks and is due for her second "end August" according to her vaccination schedule.

I have an agility trial on the 5th at KCC that I would like to take her to as part of her socialisation.

Question is - what is the correct gap between the 1st and 2nd vacc? Is it 4 weeks or 6 weeks? Local vet doesn't give a 3rd.

What is the recommended gap between 2nd vacc and being ok to be out in such a high traffic area?

She's been out and about for socialisation anyway but KCC is obviously a bit different.

Jean Dodds says no less than 4 weeks between Vaccinations, with the last Vaccination no earlier than 14 weeks. <-- I'm pretty sure on that but someone might correct me there. So 9 and 14 weeks, or in the case of an earlier Vacc 6,10,16 weeks.

Most Vets will say 7-10 days for full immunity, the immune response starts at 4 days though, so at 5 days I'd be happy to take mine out. That is only my opinion.

I have recently brought a pup and with the pup I got some great info about vaccs. Yeah you need to get the above listed ones on time - But researches in Australia and also in the US have found that the 1 that the dogs get at 12 months of age actually last anywhere from 7-10 years. This is a proven fact.

I have then also done some of my own research and have found that this is very true. Some of the vets here in Australia already follow by this but then some request that you get your dog done every year just for the money side of things.

From what I have read there is way to many things that can go wrong with dogs when they are getting vaccs every year. over-vaccination of pets can lead to many different problems and thats just the start of it.

I would encourage all of you to read into this further. I have only just found out about it but after reading and reading about it I have found that there is allot of info out there that goes against what most vets in Australia say.

I for one would say that KCC Park would be the best place to take a puppy.

Any other permanent show ground should be safe also.

Do you know of anybody that would take an un vaccinated dog to these areas.

A far safer place than a community dog park.

Also with the newer vaccination protocols = one vaccination before 12 weeks and one after your puppy should be alright.

Thanks Staff'n'Toller, if I get her 2nd vacc late next week she'll be a day or so under 14 weeks and will give her just over a week until the trial.

83ARZ - you're preaching to the converted. I need to get Zee vacc'd first, but she will be titre tested just like my older dog already is.

Oakway, KCC is open to general dog owning public as well as triallers and showies. I'd just rather be sure.
