Mim
I noticed this while I was doing Elle's nails today. It is on the ball of her foot and looks like a fleshy growth. It doesn't cause her any discomfort but I'm wondering if it needs vet attention. It seems to be attached to the foot by a small bit of skin and moves around quite a bit. Seems to have popped up recently although last time I did her nails there was a scab there..not sure if it's related. So has anybody seen this before? I think it may be a new paw pad forming at the base of her foot to toughen it up or something?
FionaC
In humans there is something called a Filiform Wart that looks like that - and on googling it it looks like you can also get them in dogs ... maybe thats what it is?
Mim
Thanks FionaC - I'm going to go google dog warts. ETA: Hmm warts don't really look like what she has. Any other ideas? Edited August 18, 2009 by Mim
puggy_puggy
Skin tag. That's not her foot is it? Looks like it is the hock of her back leg. Edited August 19, 2009 by puggy_puggy
OSoSwift
It looks like it's on the back of her hock?? If she is an older dog it may just be an age related skin growth/tag. My aged Stafford has lots of little lumps and skin tags. If you are worried get it removed, if it's very tiny and your dog is pretty compliant they may be able to remove it under sedation and local? sas
My 2 and a half year old Dane has those. They seem to be on the areas that pressure or rubbing occurs. Some dogs seem more prone to them?
Teebs
Skin tag, some of the older dogs at work have them. Atlas had a black wart thingy spring up over a few weeks, vets said it was ok, but i didnt like the look of it so got it removed.
Colliewood
My vote is a skin tag as well!! My old girl got one on her nose. Vet was not worried about it. It did not change in any way so I left it.
all that glitters
I get skin tags! I have little ones on my body, I had one that got twisted on it's stalk on my underarm and filled up full of blood and had to be cut off at the doc's. I didn't know dogs get em too! Mim
Yes it's her hock, woops. Thanks for all your input. I might get the vet to look at it anyway next time we go.
