Tracking

We are still doing tracking, mostly on ovals to avoid grass seeds and other summer time perils (ants...grrrr....ants). We are starting to get good article indication with Willow!!! And considering she has had quite a large break from training lately, I was pretty pleased with her last track.. Even if she did indicate the corners by dropping...hey...at least she's thinking it through!!!

Dory still charges through it all, doesn't want to stop even when she gets to the end.

Sounds like Dory is loving tracking so much she just wants to keep tracking.....I tracked the Weimeraner this year and she was exactly the same wanted to keep going even after a 1200m track with 2 acutes and I was exhausted....hope you are all safe from those awful fires.....keep up the great work Dory

I took the dogs to Earth Dogs for their first ever intro yesterday, Henry loved the wire tunnel where he followed the fox tail scent, Zara wouldn't even consider going into the tunnel...NO WAY! no amount of waving the fox tail was going to get her going in there! so she spent most of her time chatting to the humans, socialising and batting her eye lashes at passers-by She quite likes the barn hunt as there was some tiny bits of schmakos scattered about, she went right past the fox tail that was hidden between two bales...sigh

We had our first tracking lesson today and wow!!! Thyme did so well!

Obviously at the start he had no idea what was going on. He checked out the first article and was rewarded (at the source as per noseworks because trainer didn't specify).

He started offering drops all over the place, presumably thinking that was the goal or targeting on...idk...leaves.

I had to linger on the second article for him to notice and again rewarded him at the source as per noseworks!

We continued on the trail, he did the second 90 degree turn but I think out of pure dumb luck. However.... he found the third article (tiny wooden stick) and dropped on it before I had even noticed it! What a little star!!!

Then back on to our person, who he jumped all over in excitement.

Don't think he completely gets it yet, but very promising start! :D so much fun watching him sniff sniff sniff

Photo from his warm up break (with tiny thistle feet in the background)

( tried to find the tracking post we had expressed interest in before but couldn't find it, this one doesn't seem too old tho!)

Well, it only took what felt like a BAZILLION years...but we finally achieved a training goal and got our first pass in tracking.

Hey … congratulations!!!  A pass is always good, and to be celebrated.  :champagne:  That first one is a biggy.  (It took me 7 goes with one of my dogs to get his first pass …

That was the last trial of the season, wasn't it … so plenty of time to get ready for next year (in non-snakey places.)
