Maybe I should drop in on my way back (if it's a reasonable hour!)! I have received a lovely email from the Watersedge people, which was really positive and ticked all my boxes (so far) for ethical breeding. Getting way too excited, oh dear, I am a TERRIBLE wait-er!

Absolutley no worries - always very happy to help where ever!

I would say def go and see Melissa at Watersedge - even if you decide not to get a puppy this time around, you should see lappies in the flesh. Melissa is lovely, and most happy to have people come and see her lappies - just arrange a time with her and you will be welcome, I am sure.

Mind you, once you have had a lappie cuddle, that's it - you're GONE!!

(Ugh - my OH is behind me making sooky noises at Tasha - who ofcourse is scoring a cuddle and a smooch! )

I am definitely going to try and see Melissa whilst I'm down that way even if I have to stay another night, I have decided! Dog help her if she has a puppy still, I may sell a kidney on the Motorway if I don't have the money

Had the biggest and most comprehensive / informative chat with lovely Melissa from Watersedge, we went through the photos of her lappies and she showed me the different puppies in the litter and what markings she thought they might have etc, she MIGHT have a bitch available in that litter on the 20th, this is just spinning me out, things are coming together tooo well but still if I don't have the money together (puppy + stuff needed for puppy + good amount for backup stuff) then I'm not going to do it just because it's convenient.

Wow. Just wow.

Oh Fran you HAVE to get one!

I'm getting one hopefully mid-next-year :)

I can't wait! OH can't wait either (did I mention he wanted to import one from Finnland! Until Lappiesmum kindly advised it is around $10,000 - OH kindly decided to go with a local breeder :D

Anyway....... GO FRAN! on a fabulous choice of breed!!!!!

I'm in Townsville so we might end up doing a Lappie catch up when we get ours hey? Let's start a Nth QLD revolution!!!!

Yessss let's! We can meet at Airlie! Hahaha - I was in Townsville in July doing my undergrad medical entry exam. Love that place. Hoping to study there maybe sometime... :D

As mentioned in the Spitz thread, OH is totally cool with it we talked this morning and is willing to contribute towards a puppy if Watersedge end up having a bitch from their current litter instead of a Christmas present (hey, saves him having to think of something! Lol)... so we'll see - I don't want to be hasty, I want to make sure I am doing the right thing for the puppy not just because I have issues with waiting :)

I hope so! I was going to apply for next year JCU but TAFE really stuffed me around this year, was meant to start Maths B and Chem equivalencies in Feb but they only opened applications in September - 2 days before applications closed :D So I couldn't apply. So this coming 12 months I'm stepping back my 2-and-a-half-job workload by quite a lot to do some prep study and maybe apply for 2011 if I can - or maybe apply for science / pharmacy and do that then do grad med. It is so hard to know what to do and there's no one who can say "okay here are your possible paths into medicine and here's what we recommend you do" you just have to somehow interpret all the different rules etc yourself. Oops sorry bit of a rant it only needed those first three words really! :)

Thanks so much, shall do! You're in Sydney right? Pity I don't have more time when I'm down at K9 Force I could meet you and your beautiful dogs! I have arranged to visit Watersedge whether I get a puppy or not on my way back from there so I will get lappie cuddles either way

PS Saw your montage of Ahsoka's tricks last night on youtube :o Ummmm that one of her telling Jedi to be quiet? I literally was staring at my screen with my mouth hanging open in amazement! I can't wait to teach my girl to do that to Atlas

That's a pity!! If you do find some time when you're in Sydney let me know!

The 'shut up' trick is a lot of fun! You better video it once you teach it!

Can't stop smiling at the look of pure indignation on At's face if that happened  Poor mite, lucky he loves puppies.

Google maps tells me Kurrajong Heights is 75ks from Sydney (specific, hey, Sydney is a pretty big place I think I've never been there except to the airport when flying to Thredbo a few times lol) and my plan is to arrive at KH for my lesson with Steve at 3pm on Friday the 18th, have dinner somewhere near there, then the next day I have a 9am lesson. Plan was to leave straight after that but don't have to. It is a 12 hour drive back to Bris, sigh. Are you far away from that edge of Sydney?

ETA: This is the girl that MIGHT be available in December, even if I don't get her, she is cute as a button isn't she?

Okay okay okay, I would like at least 3 people (if possible) to give me answers to this if you can!

I want to know the top three WORST things about a lappie and the top 3 BEST things.

GO!

Best

1. They're intelligent and have a nice working drive so they're fairly easy to train, but still with a bit of spitzy spunk!

2. They give the most amazing cuddles!

3. They're very easy to live with and get along with most dogs and people.

Worst

1. They can be noisy. When we had our NSW lappie picnic there was quite a bit of barking to alert the arrival of another dog! Though in my experience they can be trained to be quieter and they usually don't bark just for fun.

2. Umm...

3. Err...

Yeah, I can only think of one 'worst' thing!

Worst things:

-Looking after the coat and dealing with sheds.

-The moments of spitz independence that come just when you least expect them and really don't want them to. Kivi blew off his recall for the first time in months one day in favour of eating human excrement.

-I think the friendliness gets a little out of hand sometimes. Kivi WILL approach a dog that's going to snap at him, and he'll then do it again if it was only an air snap. It takes an all out lunge accompanied with vicious barking and snarling to convince Kivi that it might be better to stay away from a dog. I can call Kivi back from a dog he wants to say hello to if I don't think it will appreciate him, but I have to watch him especially with smaller dogs. He sometimes bounces all around them and when they have a go at him he doesn't even feel it through his coat. He will also totally whore himself out to anyone that has a kind look for him. You sometimes feel like you aren't very special to him.

Best things:

-They are just so freaking sweet! Forget the typical sweet breeds, Lappies take sweetness to new levels. I've had Kivi for nearly two years and I still marvel at his temperament. He's just gorgeous through and through.

-Kivi is very easy to live with and has just slotted himself neatly into our lives. He doesn't give us any trouble. We can take him anywhere and he will behave wonderfully for us. We barely trained him or socialised him, but you wouldn't know it.

-Lappie cuddles! They are just the right size and consistency for cuddles, and they usually smell like the last shampoo you washed them with. Kivi groans when you spoon with him. You just have to experience that to know how lovely it is. :) Who wouldn't want to give this teddy bear a squeeze?

Well my list after having Demi a whole 2 months so these are specific to her rather than ALL lappies

Positives

1) VERY cute and fluffy and Unique

2) VERY with other dogs- she doesnt get in their face like most other pups

3) Keeps up with four Kelpies, also puts up with four Kelpies!!

4) Is minded by my grandparents so moves between three houses and adjusted straight into all the moving around

5) she was really easliy toilet trained

6) really easy to confiscate things off (demi stops and lets you take things ie car keys off her whereas a Kelpie would take off and make it a chasing game)

7) EVERYONE loves her!!!!

8) very easy to find minders while you work your other dog because.. See No7.

Negatives

1) Bower bird tendancies- I found my mobile in her crate last night along with shoes (she cant get them all in so there are a few outside her crate as

well), toys, a rock nearly as big as her head (NO idea how she got it in there??), my watch, pair of socks, a fork and the remote control!!!!!!!

2) ALL the lappies that I have met have managed to get their tongue in my mouth- they seem to have a very pokey in/out lick rather than a drag up your face lick!!!! So darn cute but EEeeewwwww and they are so quick about it too!!!!!!

3)Puppy fluff - bring on the adult coat!

Oh and I will include a number 4 for bad things- SOOOO cute an fluffy that you dont tell them off when they are being naughty

Sorry it was impossible to keep the positives down to three!!

Oh and

9) cute ways they sleep- she woke up as i took the pic!!

DSC04937.jpg

10) VERY photogenic!!!
