Aziah
I don't own a Stafford but the puppy doesn't look like something I'd be prepared to spend hard earned money on. It doesn't appear bright and healthy in any of the pics you posted nor does it resemble what I picture as a 7 week old Stafford baby... I think you need to go and meet some other breeders, doesn't matter if you have to wait, you want a well bred, healthy puppy :D
Aziah
I'm not liking the thinning/balding hair on the side of the head either :D
lindadiosa
We didn't really get a chance to see the other one. It was in a travel crate waiting for the other family to come. We are paying $800 for this puppy and we've already placed a $100 deposit.

Miranda
I've seen a stafford pup that looked similar to yours at puppy pre-school, it was small and fine and had the same sort of head, definitely off type for the breed. It looked like a cross to me, but they swore it was purebred as they'd seen both the parents, it didn't have papers so who knows. I just assumed it was a badly bred stafford. The puppy in the photo appears to have an apple head, hence the similarity to a chihuahua. ETA that I'm not trying to be rude or upset you, I'm simply giving my opinion. nickojoy
The breeder is registered and she found the advert in the puppy pages on DOL, but its strange that that puppy isn't a SBT.
Animal House
Does the breeder have to be registered to advertise their litters on Dol? (just curious as to how it works)
ellz
The breeder is registered and she found the advert in the puppy pages on DOL, but its strange that that puppy isn't a SBT. I don't think anybody is really saying that it IS a crossbred. However quality wise, it doesn't look like a good example of the breed and would be, quite possibly, undersized/underdeveloped for its age. puggy_puggy
Does the breeder expect you to meet them in the park again when you actually pick the puppy up or can you go to their house?
lindadiosa
Hi guys. After speaking to my OH we decided to withdraw from the sale. I contacted the breeder and although she was surprised she didnt sound as dissapointing as I thought she was going to be. We've lost our deposit but it doesn't matter. There were a lot of doubts to begin with and I want to be 100% sure of what i'm getting. Thank you all for your suggestions and comments. There were all at the back of my mind but we were so excited we lost sight of the main thing really. Back to square one!!
kendall
lindadiosa. I know it is very hard but I think you have made the right decision. She didn't look like a very well (or well bred) staffy. Good luck with your search for your new family member ;)
nickojoy
Does the breeder have to be registered to advertise their litters on Dol? (just curious as to how it works) Yeah you do, I was reading about this the other week in the breeders section. The listed dogs must be registered. Other than the rescue listings which are desexed and rescue dogs only.

I too just found this thread. The puppy looked chi to me too except for the big feet. I wouldn't be too worried about waiting for a puppy up to 12 weeks old. My border was 11w 5d's when I picked her up & there was such a difference to the previous 2 dogs we got in the past at 6 w/o. Puppy pre schools usually take puppies from 8 - 16 weeks old. Good luck in your search.
Kirty
I'm sorry you have gone through this. The puppy didn't look like a cross to me, but it definitely didn't look right. She looked sickly even then I think. I really hope your perfect puppy is just around the corner. :p
Animal House
Linda, a very hard decision to make, but I'm sure you made the right one. Your pup will become a member of the family for the next 12 years or so, so you want a healthy, happy, well bred, well socialised puppy to start with. Check out some of the other breeders, go and visit them, see their pups too. Good luck with your search, pretty soon you will be back on with some news of a pup Im sure.
