Tru Borders
Sorry Kel, didnt see your reply!! Op Today, dropped Asher off at about 9am. Poor boy. Going through it all again. Hopefully the surgery is easy and fast and I can have him home tonight. Just keyhole surgery so not as invasive. Specialist thinks if all goes well, he should be all good in about 4 weeks. Not too sure yet about post op, but im going to do exactly the same as last time. Confinement for at least a week anyway. He has still been on lead in the back yard so no changes here. Got everything crossed.

Got everything crossed. We have everything crossed here too that the surgery goes well and the poor tacker doesn't have to suffer too much more. Sounds like it won't be as bad as the last surgery... so I'm guessing to yeah, take it easy - but the actual first surgery should have healed by now I'm assuming. Goodness having to go through it all again... poor boy. Poor you too LOL. But it will be worth it in the end hopefully. Let us know how he goes... brave little boy he is. I'm surprised this has happened though... the original injury must have been worse than first thought for it to mess up the meniscus. Although I don't know much about how it gets injured and even a small injury might trigger it off... Anyway, best of luck to you all and hopefully this will be the LAST time and you will see a big improvement in him soon. With the meniscus being removed, joint supplements are a must now - as eventually he will get arthritis earlier than other dogs (as I'm sure you know). I think you're already giving them to him now anyhow, but just wanted to remind you that they'll be very important now. Hugs to the lovely Asher. Tru Borders
Thanks for your support Kelly Means alot lovie. So Asher is home and it has been a long 6 hours. He has eaten about 400 grams of food and drank just a little bit, but he is very very sore and a little out of sorts. The Vet said he was put on an opiate before leaving to help with the calming. I was a little worried about it but I guess its ok. He has been whining lots and I have tried to comfort him, but not too much, OMG its so hard. I just got him up and put him on his fav chair, much to my dismay I hurt him on the way up, but he seems more at ease now so I guess thats good. I got to see the Meniscus that they removed. The tear in it was impossible to see until the Vet used one of their tools to show me the tear, which was about 1cm long. The removed piece was about the size of my thumb nail x 2. such a small piece of meniscus caused so much trouble. So confinement again for 2 weeks. After that only one 5 minute walk a day for 2 weeks, physio and check up in there aswell, then hopefully at 4 weeks we can get back in the pool and rebuild the muscle as it is lost. Anyone say dejavu?
Kelly_Louise
Deja vu alright!!! But at least you both know the drill... So they didn't remove the whole meniscus... just a piece of it? It's amazing that such an insignificant part of the knee can cause the most pain and discomfort. But it's gone now, so hopefully you will now see the improvement you EXPECTED from the last operation, but didn't get. Is he using his leg at all yet? Poor boy, must be really traumatic... at least Chloe's ops were months apart, his first one must still be fresh in his mind... and all he knows is that he comes out in pain. He'll get better though, and hopefully it will then be a long forgotten memory - whilst he's racing like a greyhound. Thinking of that, the first time I had to leave Chloe for her first leg op - I left the vet in tears (afraid that it wouldn't work, afraid of how she'd cope etc) - and my dad, bless him, said to me don't you worry Kel, she'll be racing around like a greyhound one day. And true to his word, she was (albeit an arthritic greyhound LOL). She did almost catch a cat that dared come into her yard the other day - so that's a damn good effort for and almost 12yo bionic dog with Cushings!! Asher will probably get used to this life of luxury and having people fuss over him!! Anyway, chin up and keep going a few more weeks... the end really is in sight this time. Hugs to you all - and updates please... I hope he'll be using his leg soon if he hasn't already (although it would be rather tender just now I'd say). Tru Borders
Thanks Kelly, needed to read that Still not using his leg yet, but he hasn't moved too much. The incision was done on the outside of the leg this time so im assuming its affecting him differently. We'll get there. Still a bit sooky this morning. I think its more for the sympathy and pats and hugs cheeky bugger! Im guessing they took the whole meniscus? im a little confused, maybe it was the front part and not the back ..... brain scramble He has Turkey leg again Kelly it had grown back to a point that was bearable, off we go again He's so good going to the Vet though, after everything he has had done, he still loves going in and being taken away by the Vets!! Bloody fool. So as well as Sasha's blend, we are introducing Glucosamine, Chondroitin and maybe some MSN to the diet. Once the Sasha's blend is finished we aren't going to use it anymore as it is not aiding in the repair. Gonna see if I can find some Osteoease that has all the above ingredients in it, Gluc and Chon specifically. I can see Chlo now running across the yard chasing the cat Bless her, she has the mind of a 2 year old Will update as any progress comes in. Kelly_Louise
Bless her, she has the mind of a 2 year old Unfortunately, yes she does... but the body of an old creaky 18 year old... Her legs are progressively getting worse though - not from the actual operation, but just from arthritis and wear and tear I think you have to let them know their limitations... I have a friend who's pup had ops on it's elbows and hips and she is now about 2 or 3 years old and she limits the impact on the joints (ie, puts a limit on rough play/jumping etc) so that her dog doesn't overdo it or damage the joints too much too quickly. Anyway, you guys will be fine - sounds like it's all under control
Tru Borders
Asher doing well today. His Turkey leg is giving him the shits as its completely shaved but other than that he is getting around ok, putting some pressure on the leg. Some brusing came through last night. All good so far. Tru Borders
its now been a 10 days since surgery and Asher is doing ok. Had a vet check up today and he is happy with the weight bearing Asher is showing on his leg. to be honest, I set up the crate but only used it for the first 3 days. As Asher has been pretty quiet anyway I have let him have his freedom, with back yard visits every day. Hasn't seemed to have hurt him in any way. Only used the Metacam for 3 days as he seemed fine. So all good so far. Hope positive progression keeps on.
