cassvanm
Hi guys, I have a 9.5wk old golden retriever, and she has a lump on her tummy that's just come up today. It is smaller than the size of a 5c piece, and is raised, and looks a bit like a blind pimple. Is this normal? Or should I get the vet to check it out? It's not causing her discomfort, and it is not discoloured.
puggy_puggy
It could be anything. Allergy to grass, plants, carpet etc Insect bite Ringworm Hotspot I would probably bath it in salty water or even physohex (human acnea facewash) and watch it for a few days. If it gets worse or starts to spread then a vet check may be needed. Edited July 31, 2009 by puggy_puggy
Bindii
Fletcher had one of these at about the same age- would have definitely described it as a pimple! Vets said it was a pustule, but also said the reasons it was there could be endless. Because it was just one we decided to just leave it rather than put him on antibiotics for one pimple. It went away within a few days! Apparently they can get really bad though, and they can get many all over the tummy. I'd just watch it for now. If it gets worse/causes her problems or if she gets more of them then take her to the vet.
ellz
Puppies can also suffer from a condition called "puppy acne" and this can pretty much appear anywhere, the tummy is quite common. However, that said, I'd be evaluating the environment to see if there are any known allergens visible. Maybe a bath in a PH neutral shampoo (Baby Shampoo was actually recommended by a vet at one stage) and watch it to see if it spreads, appears in more locations or becomes nasty looking. If it isn't gone in a couple of days, I'd be going to the vet about it.
