It's That Time Of Year Again ....

Yep, once again it is that time of year, Ekka time & that means I will be competing in the Dances With Dogs Canine Freestyle division at the Ekka. Toady we had a full dress rehersal at an indoor training facility at the RSPCA store at Springwood, of course it is always a bonus if you have a routine planned long enough before hand to be able to memorise it ::happydance: . I finished planning my routine this morning at 11.30 & had to perform at 1.30, completely stuffed it up & the dog was hysterical LOL, ohhh well it can only get better it can't get any worse :cheer: .

This is only the second competition of the year & the second since DWD has become a recognised dog sport here in Australia. I missed the first one (Petacular) due to being o/s at the time - our 3rd competition will be at the Gold Coast show at the end of August (30th at 10am).

I have been lucky enough to be picked for a demo on the first Thursday (6th August) of the Ekka at lunchtime at the dog pavilion, which is a fantastic opportunity to get to do a full dress rehersal in the ring we are going to be performing in, but without the pressue. The following Tuesday (11th) is Heelwork to Music & Canine Freestyle starters & intermediate routines, the last Friday's (14th) competition is HTM & CF novice & advanced, Im doing CF novice.

I will be performing to I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor, if anyone is at the Ekka those days, please come along & have a look. We are scheduled to go on at 3pm on Tuesday & the last Friday & lunchtime (12pm) on the first Thursday, but may well be earlier if they finish the showing early. If you are planning to come I would suggest getting there with plenty of time to spare as last year it was pretty much standing room only - & if you come on the Thursday or the Friday, make sure you come along & say hi to Jarrah & myself  .

Awesome, I hope someone puts it on youtube

I plan to video it and if I can manage to stop the video battery going flat half way (like last year  ) and if I can get my computer working again soon, I will be putting it up on Youtube.

I will be trying to get all the performances if I can.

Cheers,

DagBoy

There is an article in today's Sunday Mail here in Brisbane about Dances with Dogs at the Ekka, on page 3!

ETA - Barb, do they say "multiple bad rehersals = good show"? (this is me dancing without Jarrah   :scold: )

So you're page 3 girls now? :D :( Seriously, it's great to get publicity

;) I'm sure that's true too. :) And it'll be me, trying to get something ready for a little versatility expo the BC Club is wanting to put on the day of the BC Champ Show. :)

Page 3 girl LMAO :kissbetter::love: :D you've met me Barb, I couldnt think of a more unlikely person to be a page 3 girl :) :) but thanks for the laugh  . No I wasn't in the article, actually the only pics they had were of dogs (& no, not Jarrah) :p .

On a more serious note, I think it's fantastic publicity for the sport, it's exactly what we need to get people interested in it & hopefully the audience might see it & say "Hey, I can try that with my dog!".

We practiced the routine tonight & it went much much better, I think I just need to stop him & settle him down before certain moves otherwise he just gets wound up more & more & goes a bit skitzo on me  .

BTW, you know that Im expecting a video on YouTube from you too, don't think you can get away with performing at the BC specialty & not letting us see it ;) .

You and me both about the page 3 girl. :)

Glad the routine went better this time. Yes, I can see that timing is pretty critical. I need to get some music going, and see if I can fit the few moves we have into some music. Now - is that before or after the tracking training, some obedience training with Rory, Kirra's agility trial (virtually no training  ) ..... to say nothing of work, which seriously gets in the way of dog stuff  .

  • 2 weeks later...

Well the first Thursday's demo went well, yesterday's competition also went well despite the Started divisions being bumped back til almost 5pm. There ended up being 11 dogs competing in Started Freestyle & 8 of them qualified  (including our very own BC4Me :bolt::cry: ) & 5 entries in Started Heelwork To Music with 4 qualifiers. I have to say that the spectators absolutely loved all of the dogs, even when things didnt go exactly to plan (well the handlers plan anyway   ) the crowd didn't mind one bit. Of course Maree & Mutley stole the show competing in Intermediate Freestyle.

Friday is Novice Freestyle & Heelwork To Music.

Huski, Dagboy managed to video all of the routines but sadly his hard drive died last week & he hasnt managed to get a new one installed in that computer (which is the one that has the card in it for reading the video camera). Once he gets that done he will be able to put some on YouTube, but until then the only ones that are up there are 2 of Lisa & Cass who came 1st in HTM & came 2nd in Freestyle

Heelwork to Music - 1st place, Lisa & Cass

Freestyle - 2nd place, Lisa & Cass

OMG how much fun was that. I had the best time and even managed a Qualie :D I love this sport it is soooo much fun.

The competitors are so supportive of each other, the crowd was fantastic even when some of the dogs didn't want to do what they where supposed to the crowd still cheered. It is fantastic to see the effort everyone puts into their routines. The choreography, costuming and music where all absolutely brilliant everyone should be so proud of what they have done.

Congratulations to all the winners, Qualifiers and everyone who took part in the competition. Also a big thankyou to Coral Pethers who without her imput I don't think this great sport would be up and running. ;)

Your turn next Mrs D cant' wait  for everyone on Friday (not that you will need it)

:)

the attached photo is of Chook & I at the demo on Thursday.

I definitely need it :) I just hope we don't have to wait around as much as you guys did, it won't do my nerves any good  .

You reminded me, I took about 600 photos yesterday but I havent had a look at them yet, with the bad light (& fast moving dogs & handlers) Im betting I will be lucky if I end up with 50 that aren't blurry :) .

ETA that's a fantastic pic - & not even staged! ;)
