I'm so sorry to hear that your journey together is reaching the end :(

Elliot is certainly a grand old gentleman - 17, what a wonderful age, and a wonderful life he has had with you, I'm sure )

He will be welcomed with open paws by many friends, old and new, at the bridge for his next journey

Thanks everyone again, what a crap day.

He is still here, but I think he will pass tonight. If not we will most likely take him somewhere tomorrow.

He is comfortable and happy on his bed, but hasnt really moved all day except for a little drink earlier. I desperately want him to go at home in his sleep, and I know he wants to go to. He gave me the look just before, then dropped his head back down.

Chewy, if you'd prefer, you can ring your local vet or emergency room and ask them for the name and number of a (I can't remember the correct term) vet who specialises in palliative care by house calls.

This is what I did for Kia at the end - I wish I could find the card of the vet I used. Her whole job was just making dogs comfortable as they get towards the end, and taking those final steps, if need be - she had no vet surgery, only did house calls.

She was so wonderful, I really think I would have had a breakdown if not for her I could not have coped if I had to keep taking Kia out to the vets and leaving her alone in a sterile surgical environment to be poked and prodded by strangers.

She helped make Kia comfortable, ensured she was on meds that would make her feel good over prolonging her life painfully, helped make it clear in my mind when it was time, and when the time came, because of her, Kia passed away at home, on her mat, with me and with my Dad; peacefully.

Oh gosh I'm crying like an idiot now. It's so unfair that they don't have longer lives, beautiful trusting pure souls that they. I am so, so sorry Chewy.

Chewbacca, I had to let my 12 year old cat (the tabby boy in my sig) go today after a short illness. You know this already, but I can tell you from very, very recent experience, it hurts like hell and it's terribly hard to do, but when I felt his body free of tension, completely at peace I was sure it was the right thing to do.

Hugs to you and your family, facing this hard, hard time.

Thanks, I just feel sick about intervention when he already peacefully dying. I will call that number in the morning SS.

I have had other animals PTS as I knew I was relieveing their pain including Squiddy, but Elliot seems at peace. Whos pain am I trying to take away by intervention? I have battled this all day. We have lots of vets around here, and had chosen one for this morning, but why? .

He is enjoying a stroke of the head every now and then, he cant see or hear now at all. I think all senses have shut down besides feeling.

I hope he goes tonight. The thought of a needle at this peaceful stage is making me feel more distressed, but if I think he is suffering in any way I will do the fair and right thing.
