Clyde
*points and laughs* you got a Pug! I suggest popping over in to the breed sub forums and finding the Pug thread. You will get heaps of advice there. I would also seek out a REPUTABLE puppy pre school and sign up. Good luck

huski
hahahahahah yeh i got a pug hahahahahadead set nut case i found a place called URBAN DOG TRAINING anyone heard of them ??? I've heard of them, but I don't know too much about them. However, I know of a few people who have done their puppy school and apparently their socialisation classes are very good and well supervised. muddles
I've heard good things about Urban although I haven't personally used them - if you search this forum you'll find a few threads with Brisbane puppy school recommendations We did puppy school about 12 months ago through Ziggy's at Pet City (Mt Gravatt) and Bonnie's (also at Mt Gravatt). Both were good although quite different with Ziggy's being an 8 week course with supervised structured interaction, and Bonnie's being more ad hoc. Your pup sounds pretty normal to me! I found puppy school was more helpful in teaching us about how to interact with our puppy than anything else!
Dogsfevr
Yep a normal pup. What did you expect??
kingy
yeh i thought it was normal but my MRS has a dog phobia and is very worried.... i just enrolled him in URBAN hope this works
puggy_puggy
What do you do when he is being crazy? Act crazy yourself laughing and razzing him up or ignore him? If your MRS has a dog phobia the way she is acting towards him could very likely be making him act up even more. Does he have chew toys and plenty of other toys to kill? Do you yelp and tell him off when he bites you or continue to let him bite?
kingy
we try and ingore him which seems to work for like 2 secs and then back attacking out shoes/feet/jeans... she is very good with SPUD and cant wait for him to attended puppyschool.. yes he has alot of toys to kill but seems to like fingers and jeans/shoes more.... WreckitWhippet
It's quite common for Pugs not to have an off button, it's one of the breed quirks
puggy_puggy
Perhaps investing in a puppy pen and a crate could help with time outs. It helps if you have two pug pups at the same time because they annoy eachother.
poodle proud
Hi Kingy, I'm not sure where in Bris you are but Pine Agility Dog Sports (PADS) at Eatons Hill has a fabulous puppy class. They also do a basic obedience class which I took my pup to after her third shot. Their main focus after that is in preparation for Agility. They work with difficult dogs one on one also and when you join you can use the grounds whenever you like. Sure beats going to a dog park IMO. Hope things improve! pesh
Yep a stage........sometimes a long one. Also typical of the pug puppy, and you can't help but laugh because of the face flying in the oppersite direction to the rest of the dog. Pups needs to be tired out a little. Have you started walking yet? Maybe putting all toys outside because that's the chosen play area, putting them away when you decide play time is over. Hope those couple of things help.....................good luck, but enjoy
kitty
hahahahahah yeh i got a pug hahahahahadead set nut case i found a place called URBAN DOG TRAINING anyone heard of them ??? hey kingy - congrats on the new pup. We go to Urban Dog Training. Molly has finished her beginners puppy school, and is now doing advanced puppy. They're great. Small classes and the trainers are fantastic. Make sure you go to Urban Playgroup too on the weekends, excellent supervised socialistion with other pups (which is good fun for us owners too!). When do you start? If you go to the Carina one, i'll keep an eye out for you!
~Anne~
I have a 9 month old Pug pup in rescue at the moment whose owners also were told his energetic crazy behaviour was 'normal' and I can tell you it is far from it in this case. I hope this little pup of yours didn't come from the same Sydney based breeder. This little one is nothing like a Pug should be and his playfulness is way beyond normal. Your little one could be just being a puppy though. Puppy training is a good idea. Keep in touch with your breeder and let them help guide you too.
