VinnieStaff
Morning All, You might be able to help me out, my 8mth old Staffy has had bad breath for two days and yesterday his gums were bleeding. I thought i might be some more teeth coming through (as thats what happened when he was teething a couple of months ago) But now he is licking and and sounds dry mouth ???? but is still drinking alot Has this happened to your dog if so .....What was wrong I have looked into his mouth to see if there is anything stuck in there and there is nothing, I also gave him a chew bone yesterday and it didnt really help. I am going to take him to the vet tomorrow if he doesnt get any better. Thanks in Advance
Sandra777
Which gums were bleeding - like where abouts in his mouth? They do get their final molars quite late but 8 months is a bit later than I've seen. Has he had the chance to chew and pull on something like wire netting? When you were checking his mouth did you see any redness (apart from the bleeding LOL) like he might have chewed a plant/timber which reacted with him? I had one that was a right sod for chewing timber - and seemed to like the taste of treated wood, which burnt his lips and gums so he ended up with bright red scars on his lovely black lips. It could be that he has a rotten baby tooth in there somewhere. Edited July 21, 2009 by Sandra777

VinnieStaff
Hi Sandra, Thanks for the reply....the bleeding was at the front of the bottom and top before the K9's...he was chewing a coke bottle ....stole it out of the recycling box...but the bad breath started before that. persephone
Without seeing the dog- it is difficult- plus we are not vets (well most of us) I also recommend a vet visit- as such a youngster should not have problems with his gums this early on. A retained tooth/teeth could be problematic... there are many possibilities- but a vet check is the ideal. hope you get some answers tomorrow

Well that wouldn't be the rear molars coming through then. It could be two separate things, the coke bottle caused the bleeding and something jammed in the back of his mouth/a rotten baby tooth causing the smell. Hopefully nothing worse with the bad breath, it can also be a sign of bad digestion problems, but that's not so likely with a puppy.
oakway
The bad breath could be from Tonsillitis. He may just of hurt his gums chewing.
