tlc
Hi Guys, Just had it pointed out to me by another fellow DOLer that my pics take a long time to load?? I usually resize them in picasa to 800 pixels and each pic is then saved at around 250 kb or under. Is this still too big? Just wondering as no one has ever mentioned this problem before and with the challenges it can be a pain if the pics take a long time to load!! tlc
These two pics are both resized one to 480 pixels and one to 800 pixels Is there any difference in them loading?? Edited July 19, 2009 by tlc
persephone
hi- another picasa user here..800 is ok- but drop quality level down a bit ,maybe ? I often put pics at 640 ..and quality at 'normal' with my photos- this equals around 150 kb.
persephone
first one is HEAPS faster :D Mind you ,I'm on dialup still, too very cute pic ....love the doggy kisses
tlc
The top one is smaller obviously but they load so quick on my PC. Is there something else I should be doing to compress them. Im so dippy when it comes to resizing, I just get picasa to do it and always thought I was doing it right?? Has anyone doing the challenges had any trouble with my pics loading slow?? tlc
Thanks so much, yea I love the way it looks like Tully is whispering in my ear!! But the big guy doesnt look impressed he has the sad eyes on!! Ok this one is 640 pixels and it is on normal, I didnt even know you could change it and the file size then is 71 kb which seems rather small. I guess it depends what the original file size is. persephone
This is why I dont frequent the photo threads often especially challenges, the photos take so long to load same here. That last one was great, tlc !! fast, and still enough detail for a 'happy snap' Edited July 19, 2009 by persephone
tlc
Well I will resize to the same as the last one form now on, but what I cant figure out is how come when I load the page they are there basically instantly like maybe 3 seconds to load. Ill go back and see exactly how long.
tlc
Ok I went out of the browser all together. Then opened a new page and went to the thread and when I scroll down the pics are already there?? I guess it depends how fast your internet is and how much else you are downloading at the time?? There is a lot of factors to consider!
persephone
there are - computer age/speed, internet connection type.. all sorts of things!
Guest Pandii
Yep, there are all sorts of things to take into consideration, but some are running dial up on old computers, some run multi computers off one connection It does depend on what package you are running, I try and keep mine compressed to allow for those that dont have super fast computers/internet But also, the photos count towards your upload/down load total, dont want to use everyones limits do we

kja
FWIW keeping your file sizes to around 100kbs really helps those on slow connections. Most of my images - always resized to 650 pixels longest side - are between 50-150kbs (that's pretty big and I try to keep those to a minimum), with the majority being 60-110kbs. tlc
Thanks Kristen, I am resizing now to each image being around 70 - 100 kb so hopefully that will be better for the ones who have slow connections etc... ps what is FWIW??
