Do You Go To Dog School In The Rain?

I treck out 95% of the time regardless of the weather, and find that if it starts raining while we're out on the grounds, most of the class go running for shelter! When it comes to obedience training I think a little bit of rain while training is a good thing! But if it's pouring down quite hard I will get out of it, Ruby looks up at me squinting in the mildest of rain so I don't think it's fair on her to have hard rain gushing in her eyes - I'm already having enough trouble getting her to maintain her focus on me without ruining it with rain! I have defect Labs in that they aren't too keen on the rain

I don't do agility in the rain as I feel it's dangerous for my dogs. I have worked sheep in the rain many times & if I did obedience would probably still train in the rain. I actually like being out in the rain with my dogs, except that it takes my boys hours & hours to dry.

I agree about agility. Wet contacts aren't safe. I've seen too many dogs slip on landing and turns too.

The one time I obedience trialled Ted in the rain he did squats for sits and bows for down.. :o Not a big fan of the wet was Ted. Of course ask him to go for a bush walk in the rain and its a whole different story. ;)

We've been training in about an inch of water for the last month - tonight was the first dry night in quite a while.

I'll go out in just about anything as long as it is fairly safe for dogs and people.

Nope, cold I don't mind, but rain I hate competing and training in because I certainly don't have fun and therefore they don't either.

One: I don't like getting rained on

Two: Neither do the dogs

Three: It's unsafe for them as well as me!

I haven't had to yet, but I won't trial (obedience) in strong rain. A light shower, yes, but if the rain is heavy enough to cause a bit of grief, I won't trial in it. My dogs hate the rain so I don't want them to associate the feelings they have towards rain to trialling! Not sure if that sounds like a load of pooh but that's the way I see it ;)

As a teenager I used to traipse around the local oval in my raincoat and gumboots. In my 20's at the GSD Club there was always classes no matter what. Along came kids and getting to classes was a rare treat so I didnt care about the weather. But that was years and years ago, when it used to rain .........

Nowdays I'm spoilt, we have an undercover area so get protection from rain and wind.

ahhh luxury

I don't train in the rain. I used to do it years ago, trained/trialled in thunderstorms.. but not any more. I am miserable, the dogs are sometimes miserable.. Much prefer sitting inside with a dog on the lap watching the idiot box and a glass of wine
