Hi Hunterhound! Welcome to showing and the forum!! If you send me a private message via this forum with your email address I can email you a copy of a show entry form in the morning.

I look forward to meeting you and your BH girl.

Deb :mad

Hello to all.

I'm a newbie in the Dog show scene (come from a horse background - Dressage). I have had bloodhounds for a number of years now & have mainly concentrated on mantrailing - which I must add is an absolute blast for both handler & hound.

I have recently imported a BH bitch from Sweden & hopefully will be showing her soon. She was just released from quarantine on Sunday & is a bit of a wild child due to the lack of handling whilst in 'jail'. I will give her a little bit of time to be a puppy again & then start taking her out, once I have done a bit of handling. I am thinking about Hillsborough in March, although I may just go & take her for a look at Maitland and Medowie.

I'm not even sure how to fill in the entries for a 5 month (at the end of March) pup. What classes is she eligible to be entered in...just the 3 - 6 mth sweeps?

Any assistance would be welcomed.

Cheers

She can do Sweeps and Baby Puppy. The classes for each age are listed on the back of the entry forms.

It would be great to see more Bloodhounds at shows. I rarely see any around here. :provoke:

OK...now this is a really dumb question but as I haven't even seen an entry form, I need to ask this :driving: - are the entry forms generic & obtained from Dogs NSW? If this is the case then classes etc. will be noted on the back of these forms?

Thanks for any help you can give!!

Cheers

PF I keep trying to tell Gail to bring magic up this way - maybe you can convince her to do a show at hillsborough to see the bloodhound, I can play with magic............... and of course feel and touch howies fab headfall too :driving:

heya hunterhound - you'll find a few of us newbies in this thread are either local to newcastle or show regularly this way :mad

There are 2 show training options too if youre interested. Some of us go to hillsbrough grounds every second tuesday and there is one sammy_ballerina and kristy go to cessnock way. Good socialisation and ring training as well as an opportunity to ask other show realted questions. Hillsborough one is only $2 a session.

Bec

Hi Bec

Thanks for the info re Hillsborough. Is it an evening thing or during the day?...unfortunately I have to work Tuesdays, although if it were an evening thing I may be able to make it. Any more info regarding Cessnock..as that is possibly closer to me anyway?

Thanks for your help!!

I'm not Bec but my understanding is that Hillsborough is Tuesday evenings on a fortnightly basis and is on next Tuesday from memory - 6.30pm isn't it Bec? .... we will be there for the first time next week - when i say "we" it will be my the 12 week old pup's first outing and show training so it should be interesting .... hmmmm yes interesting is the word we will go with so far :provoke:

We will be at Maitland next weekend for some environmental training and possibly Medowie as well for a visit (I missed the cut off date to enter that show) ... looks like first show will be Hillsborough 13/14 March.....

Hi

I am also going to have a look at Maitland..it's the 20th if I remember correctly! Unfortunately Maja hurt her toe within one hour of me bringing her home, so she is being confined at the moment & on anti inflammatories. Hopefully she will be fine by then. A friend is showing at Cessnock the week after but I was thinking that Medowie might be better to go to rather than an Ag show as it could be a bit scary for a pup. This is purely for a 'look' ...my paperwork is still being processed for her anyway. Hillsborough on the 14th of March will possibly be the first for me. What is the normal cut off time for entries...I don't want to enter until I know her foot is fine. She is rather wild so I need to get some handling & lead training done before I hit the shows anyway.

Cheers

13/14 March Hillsborough closes 22nd Feb the Gazette says so still a little time before its due .....

sorry to hear Maja is injured - poor puppy :provoke:

Archie is pretty wild as well - I've done some stacking practice and we're working on free stacking but I've never shown before and we've really not tried a lot of lead training so it will be fun - but I've been told that showing a baby puppy is a lot of fun cause most of them don't do anything they are supposed to - so if Archie is being naughty I hope he's looking cute doing it :driving:

I will be in the same boat as you with Willow. I went and visited her breeder yesterday and she gave me some tips... Willow just won't stand still if she is on the ground when I am stacking her, it seems so obvious now, lol, but she said put your thumb under her collar and don't let her get away with the squirming around, once she realises that you will make her do it, it will be much easier! She is a pro at doing the stacking as well, lol, I have a lot to learn, she had Willow doing pretty good stacks within a minute!

Willow's lead training is going ok, she still chews the lead a little, and plants her bottom on the ground occasionally, but she's getting there!

LOL dont worry guys kite is just about to hit junior and still a nut case in the ring, shes improving but I have never rushed her or forced her into behaving, its better they have character than be a robot! well within reasons, sometimes Kite needs a good talking to cause she can be a smidge too naughty!

ETA. Cesnock training is on on tuesdays too but doubt it will suit as during daylight savings its 5pm but then when its non daylight savings time its 4pm, there is no cost and your just turn up when ever you feel its every tuesday!

What exactly is expected of baby puppies in the ring? Lincoln can gait on the leash but is not enjoying stacking so I am only doing small lessons so I don't ruin showing for him. I have him entered in a show under an international judge in over 2 weeks but am considering withdrawing him if the judge will be expecting him to be able to stack perfectly.

Ahkk yep I know that. Thanks  ...Might go down the night before to make sure though lol, I am pretty useless! When is it they put the ring plan and what not?

I'm way too familiarised with the simplicity of HB LOL.

awesome.....looks like there will be a very naughty bloodhound baby joining everyone. Seeing she has sat in quarantine for 30 days, she just hasn't had much handling, so expect a ratbag LOL...How long does it go for & how much does it cost??

Costs $2 and goes for roughly an hour / an hour and a half, depends how long you stand around and talk and when Nikki arrives...and how many dogs turn up!

Hey Jess! Good to see you in here! I have to laugh - every time I see Leo's avatar pic out of the corner of my eye I think he's a pug! I would love to see him again soon! Aurea must nearly be as big as him now. :) How are his hot spots/funny bits going?

That sounds excellent....how old are the pups that usually go? My girl is just over 4 months...

Hey :( ...I am kinda slack around here..Lol.

And who you callin pug??!

Ar, well I can't wait to see the big girl!! Where will you be at next? Leo is at a stand still at the moment, not growing much- well not much for me to notice..I still look at his head sometimes though and think when is it going to stop!!! His grossness is pretty much gone! Atlast! His fur is looking great there now! But his coat change is still in full swing, and he looks like he has a giant bleached spot right on his bum! We are doing our best with the furminator and stripping block to get rid of it but it's bloody stubborn!

We are going to be at Maitland, and Medowie (both the sat shows but not sun).
