Hitting The Ring For The First Time

Talk about a thread killer!!!!( It's been 2 days, AND we've slipped off the first page!!

I realised I haven't been in to thank Janelle for running my awesome Chester in for Challenge Dog last weekend (with an added extra sprint from Toy ring to Working Dog ring and back again) - thank you so much!!!! I'll have a little pressie for you at Gunnedah! :) And thank you to Errolynne too for taking my boy around - that was lovely of you, and I really appreciate it! Wow - sounds like I have professional handlers now!! I'll have to step out of the newbie thread. :D

No clashing at Gunnedah, I hope (although I have noticed that some groups are sharing rings....) - I'm only taking an Aussie and min pins. I couldn't face lugging a Maremma all that way - Aurea can do local shows. :) I am "borrowing" a little black & tan min pin girl named Shine for a while, and she is coming with us to Gunnedah. She is due to arrive this weekend, so we are very excited. For those of you who remember our little Charm, she is Charm's 1/2 sister (via their Dad) and Chester's 1/2 sister (via their Mum)!

We were too late to get entries in for Stroud, so we are going to have a few weeks off until Gunnedah.

This morning I was at an Open Show and judging of gundogs took less then an hour. There were only two baby puppies but Lincoln lost out to an American Cocker that has also picked up a much bigger baby in group.

I have not trained a stack yet but I have been saying from the start that when he reaches 5 months I will start "proper" training, so thats two weeks. In the meantime I feel like kind of an idiot free stacking messiliy but if I try move his feet in the ring he just sits down and it becomes a far less pleasant expirence.

Be careful that these don't become habits. Better to train your dog the correct way from the start than to allow them to develop bad habits which you will have great difficulty getting rid of.

Both my breeder and a professional Chesapeake handler in the USA told me to just teach him stand (like obidience) and wait till he is a bit older to teach him a stack because Chessies can be so hard headed about being lured into anything, they have to work it out for themselves or they will rebel. I have started the basics of hand stacking at home where it dosen't matter if he moved his feet back or sits, I just won't reward that behaviour.

Also congratulation on Minor in Show!!!! :(
