Utility Question

Recommended Posts

Afternoon everyone, a quick question for you UD triallers (judges too) in regards to the interpretation of the wording of "more than"

I am currently training my sheppie girl in UD & am having a slight issue on drop from stand, Seven drops forward. When sitting from drop, I have been able to get her to keep her front feet still so that she is bringing her bum up to her front.........

She is moving forward, however my question is after looking at the ANKC rule book it says in deductions for signal exercise "over 50%; for a dog which moves MORE than half its body length..........as I mentioned Seven is moving forward but its about half her length, not more than.

Am I looking at over 50% deduction & fail or substantial or just minor?????

I hope that makes sense to everyone or is it clear as mud?

In my experience it will depend on the judge.

Any chance of videoing what is happening so we can have a look.

It sounds like my old girl was doing what you dog does - we were never pinged in UD - but come UDX it made change of positions really really difficult. If you have any intention of doing UDX it would be worthwhile going back and teaching the push up sit or the fold back drop.

Agree with Ptolomy.

Also - what are your downs like?! Does she move forward on those?!

I ran the issue of my boy coming slightly forward on the down, then sitting like your dog dogs - wham - there goes 1/2 a body length .

I preferred to make it really clear for him, so I changed the down/sit cue and got a fold back down and a push up (as in step back into a sit) sit :)

Saves a lot of stress and worry
