lilydoggie
Hi there, i have a 6 months old maltese, and we wash her every week. currently shes on advocate & virbac tapeworm tablets, and after two weeks she almost certainly gets some fleas. i read that washing with shampoo reduces the effectiveness of topical neck applications can we use advantage together with sentinel spectrum? whats a better combination? stormie
Yep - that would be a good combination. Generally the companies will recommend you use two different products, one that affects the fleas life cycle/development, and one that kills the adults. Sentinal works on the breeding cycle and advantage just kills the adults, so good combination. You could also replace the advantage for capstar tablets. ~Debs~
Rather than use any poisonous chemicals, try adding a bit of crushed garlic to the food a few times a week,& also brewers yeast tablets.....fleas don't like the taste of their skin & it will help to keep them away! Teebs
no cats! but a wild cat comes walking in our backyard every night can you trap the cat and take it to the pound? I *knock on wood* have never had a flea problem here, did have one years ago with my old Staffy, but after a few treatments they all died off. pebbles
Get rid of that cat. The only time I had a flea problem was just after I moved here, fleas in droves. Turned out there had been feral cats living under the house. Got the exterminator in, bombed the house, washed everything not nailed down, haven't had a flea since and that was a lot of years ago. I don't use any of the preventatives as I wont give my guys chemicals.

~Debs~
Yes it does!!!!.....another useful tip is to put a small dish of water near where the dog sleeps as some of the fleas jump in it & drown.
Crisovar
I wish it were that easy.
brigie bear
they would be fine to use together but IMO a better combo would be sentinal and capstar
jrm88
Also remember that even if you still are seeing fleas in 2 weeks time, you need to keep up with the treatments. Also if your animals have access to under the house (where the stray cat might go) try and prevent that access if you can. Unfortunately if the stray cat has fleas, it will be spreading flea eggs allllllllllllllll over your backyard so definately keep all your animals on treatments (dont just stop when you see no more fleas) Edit: I dont think capstar + sentinel would be better. Capstar only has a very short amount of time that it continues working (when it does work it is brilliant) and after it stops working, sentinel will "sterilise" the females but wont kill them.Capstar also doesnt kill any eggs or larvae so they would begin hatching out again in no time.
