Pulling Teeth

Kaos needs a tooth removed, one right at the back. I am going to try to get her in this week to get it out of the way.

Do i have to watch what i feed her? She is normally on dry food, and fresh meat and bones - im guessing bones will be out for a little while? but not sure about the other food.

She may want soft food for the first day after (sore throat maybe from pipe?) After that she should be OK for normal rations, she can always do the crunching on the other side of her mouth. I find mouths tend to heal really fast. Maybe add the bones after a few days.

Asher had one of his pre molars out a few months ago (big bone crunching one at back) and we fed roast chicken for the first 36 hours after surgery (he didnt eat for the first 15 hours) as it is not a teeth sticking food. The vet recommended this for us.

For about a 5 days after we fed dry that was mixed with a little warm water to soften and other non chewing food. Then we brought back in the chewy stuff. I didnt bring the bones back in for about 2 weeks though.... probably more of a paranoia thing!!

Yeah Asher seemed ok aswell, but Vet said it needed to come out asap.

The hardest part for me was him coming out of the anaesthetic. I slept on the floor while he slept on the cushions!! Yep, I'm a sookie lala for my boy!!

Just so you know Teebs I have been feeding all the regular Bones and raw food that I fed beforehand and he never has a problem, even with no cruncher on one side

  • 1 month later...

ok, well last time vet said it could wait a bit longer, but not any more!

It is getting pulled on Friday, she said she can do it tomorrow, but i am the working the next 3 days, so we booked Friday so I can be home on the weekend with her. Atlas may pick on her if she isnt feeling well, and if the weather stays yuck and she is not feeling well, i rather her inside.

Last year, my old boy had both of his premolars out at the same time. For the first few days after surgey, I fed him larger pieces of raw meat - nothing that could get caught/stuck in the holes :)

By about day 4 or 5 he was on chicken necks and wings, by day 7 back to frames, briskets etc. The stithes were disolvable and he had absolutely no problems. Loosing those two toofers though, it now takes him longer to chew frames etc as he finds it hard to "get a grip" of them to get started.
