Grooming Frames - Pros And Cons?

Recommended Posts

I bought a grooming frame from Groomers Friend and it is the most brilliant thing I have bought for grooming :) I would not be without it now.

I have a 1yr old standard poodle and this frame is big enough for him to fit under and strong enough to support him. I also groom some of the local SWF's eg. Malts, Shih's etc.. and it accommodates them as well. I bought a few different length chains and a couple of different size tummy straps, can let you know exactly if your interested and it has been great.

I also bought a full sling, so you can put all 4 legs through and actually suspend them off the ground - fantastic for clipping nails on nasty little monsters

I have a frame and it is much better then a control arm if you are having to tie up the dog at both ends. I have a chain across the top attached to the ancor points and I can use this to attach the dog to as I can raise and lower the chain lengths easily without having to swop different straps.

For the belly band I have a shoulder strap from an old bag, which has clips on either end to fasten it to the chain, the fabric is soft enough to be comfortable for the dog. Very handy for the older dog who can't stand for any length of time.

It should helpp with your dog but you will still need to train him to behave better!

I've had one for years and not used it yet.

Although I think my Liberty one looks shorter than Blue Fox's, IMO Blue Fox's would be better to have. Standard Poodle/Golden/Labradoodles etc are too tall to be under my frame to be used for the frames purpose.

Although I find restraining the dogs cumbersome.

If I have a wriggler I put them on a smaller grooming table.

I used to not be able to cope with out a frame and then I worked with another groomer who showed me a variety of holds and now I just find they get in the way - of course I usually work with other ppl who can hold difficult dogs for me.

If I was the OP and grooming alone having a belly sling and neck loop would help.

Wow fox, look at your settup! Cool!

I like the tummy sling idea :) My hubby is the onlyl one here to help me and he always huffs and puffs and 'are you done YET??' To strip the bums of the cairns I think it would be good so they cant spin and sit! lol

This is totally wrong and not necessarily recommended but it worked for me.

I was having MAJOR issues with Rimes on the table so one frustrating day, I trimmed him whilst he was standing on the show stackers. Not only did I manage to get his feet done properly, but he now stands nicely when I'm doing it without the stackers.

Needs must! :)

Thanks Missymoo - I am by myself and love the sling, now instead of restanding dogs all day I just pop them in it and get feet and legs done without the fuss and bother. I can fit our GSD under the frame but it doesn't leave much room to move lol.
