Bad Gas

Oscar has been absolutely stinking out the house with his farts . When I say bad they are bad, they don't linger to much thankfully however are rather often, esp at night.

He eats purina pro plan puppy, chicken based meatloaf, chicken necks wings carcusses.

And he just dropped another , it seems to be while he is sleeping mainly, and is driving me insane!

Is it his diet? Or is he just a gassy dog?

It could be the meatloaf or the dry food.

A suggestion is to cut back to x1 food eg. boiled chicken(no fat) and perhaps rice to get a gas free dog then gradually add/replace with each food you are using now, to find out which one is causing it.

My dogs fart if they get a animal fat in their diet and OMG its murder if we give them lamb as its so fatty and its a saturated fat.

My cousin's dog could not tolerate ANY dry food.

My point being, each dog is different.

second time was when he had his shots done by the vet so vet put on the treatment.

Please get a new vet - the one you have is being dangerously irresponsible with your puppy's LIFE

We are new to the dog world so still learning and have been thinking of changing vets as the local one doesn't seem to know a lot about the breed. Now you have informed me of this he will not be going back to that vets again and we will most definitely be changing ASAP. Thanks so much for the great info, I would never do anything intentionally to harm my puppy and it is good people on DOL have the right answers to many questions.

Oh, one more suggestion. Head on down to the health food shop and buy a bottle of Inner Health Plus or a similar probiotic from the fridge section.. .a few days of those should get plenty of good gut flora up and running in his tummy.

OR, maybe the vet is doing the right thing, by starting a process of elimination with regards to the itchies. Maybe the dog has scabies? Revolution can be used to treat scabies.

When Orbit started itching as a pup, under DERMATOLOGISTS advice, we were started on a process of elimination. The first being fleas and scabies mites. Even though no scabies came on up scrapings, it doesn't mean they're not there.

Just because you can't see fleas, it doesn't mean they are not there. If your dog is atopic, it may have a flea allergy, in which case, one bite from a flea is enough to cause itching for many days.

I would start speaking to a vet familiar with atopy and start working on a plan. If your dog has food issues, you should look at doing a proper elimination diet, rather than just changing foods. No point switching if for example the problem is chicken, as chicken is in everything!

If I give any of my staffords fresh meat or bones they fart, If I only feed them Royal Canin they don't. This applies to the treats, if I give raw treats even a smallest bit, they fart to the point I walk around to see who pooed inside.
