NJ, is it worth spending the money on DNA testing? OK, so you didn't get what you expected in terms of breed, but you did get a lovely dog. I guess if it really bothers you, then chase it up. And if the breeder is a BYB anyway, I highly doubt they are going to reimburse you or do anything to help. DNA tests are very expensive - money that could be spent on dog toys, food, etc.

What do you hope to achieve by having a DNA test?

There is no way NJ is a purebred Staffordshire Bull Terrier. At just 6 months of age he is already big for this breed.

I would just wait and see how he develops over the next few months. Post some more pics on here then. Ask the vet what he thinks.

Either way he is a good looking dog and I would imagine you must be pretty attached to him by now. And I don't think the breeder will conceed anything to you whether you have DNA results or not.

Would it be that bad if he ended up 23" tall and 40kg? The food bill will be a little higher. Do you have a decent yard? Obedience will be even more important.

There is no breed better with children than Staffords and even if he was a quarter or half bull mastiff, well they aren't bad with children either. Mastiffs aren't as welcoming of strangers as Staffords are though that could be a plus. lol.

How does NJ behave? Is he sooky and cuddly like a Stafford?

As for kibble Supercoat is still a premium food but it is right at the bottom of the heap along with Science Diet and Eukanuba.

Supercoat is not a premium food. It is a cheap food full of fillers.

NJStaffy - a SBT breeder here has given her opinion on your dog and as an owner of a giant breed - the feet on your dog are a dead give-away. Someone else has also commented on the coat colour.

Supercoat is still better than most of the crap you can buy at Woolies or Big W and must at least be on par with Science Diet which at twice the price of Supercoat is generally considered a premium dog food despite its poor ingredients.

A lot of people waste good money on Science Diet which is full of corn, by-products, fillers, artifical flavour and with much of its protein coming from soy rather than actual meat.

It's not actually that expensive to have him DNA tested - you could start by having his alleged sire and his DNA compared. For the moment you can assume the bitch you saw is his dam and if you're happy that she is a pedigree Staffordshire Bull Terrier then that's that for now. If the dog which is meant to be his sire comes back as a non-match then you could think about having the more expensive test which is meant to identify breeds.

His colour is a perfectly accepted and not incredibly uncommon Staffordshire Bull Terrier colour so is absolutely no help in this case :-)

This is half the reason why so many dogs end up in pounds, BYB's selling puppies that aren't what they say they are and owners crap themselves when it gets huge :) I'm certainly not saying that's what you're going to do but it just really bothers me.

I'm sorry to hear you got lied to but he looks like a lovely dog & I'm sure he'll bring you much joy.
