Kirislin
I have a friend with a whippet who's had this problem, I even wrote about it here a few months ago. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...=151710&hl= It can be dangerous as you already know. the vet said to her that if it keeps happening they can enlarge the hole in the sheath. Your poor boy, it must be agony for him. Edited June 29, 2009 by Kirislin
Teebs
Thank you! I just cant stand the thought of it happening while i am at work and him sufferring like that for hours ETA i didnt think of cold water! So seems it isnt uncommon, but because he wants to eat me, it makes it worse because i cant help him ETA Vets just rung, they had to sedate him, wouldnt let anyone near him, they had everyone in there and he just freaked, so thought it was nicer and faster to knock him out. He vomited while under (with poo in it - ahhh, love my dog ) because he had breakie this morning before it happened, so they have put him on Anti Bios just incase some of it got into his lungs. Not much to do with him, just said to keep an eye on him and talk to my neighbour and ask her to cheeck on him once a day when i am not around (thats going to be a fun chat) Edited June 30, 2009 by Teebs
Kelly_Louise
Is he always like that at the vet? Or just because of this delicate problem?

Kelly_Louise
Oh no.... poor thing. I have the same problem with Sasha (pain or not) so can totally understand - it's really frustrating especially when you know they need help. No one really knows how to handle her (best suggestion is also sedating)... Luckily she just air snaps as warning... but I'd never take the chance. And also lucky she will let me help her - but I'm limited in what I can do of course :D Edited June 30, 2009 by Kelly_Louise

Animal House
Poor Atlas, not again! I can only imagine how painful that would be.
Guest *Pixie*
The poor little bugger :D Yes as Kirislin said - they can make the opening at the end of the sheath bigger so that it is looser and therefore easier for the willy to retract itself once it has made its grand appearance. Teebs
Thanks guys, had a talk to the vet and she said she isnt too worried at the moment, but i am going to have to get a GOOD muzzle, i cant afford to get him to the vets if it happens again (Mum rung up behind my back and paid the bill for me this time :D ) and get some lube is there anything diet wise that could help? Going to do some googleing and see what i can find He is pretty sore, and it keeps dripping (yay) so i have him crated for the night.

becks
I can just see you at the chemist, asking for some lube for the dog! lol
OSoSwift
Poor Atlas - he does like to get up to mischief doesn't he! Basically lube and try to get it to go back. If he does it again then getting the opening to his sheath enlarged may be the best way to give you peace of mind. It isn't a big operation. Good Luck
