auir
Hi Just got a question to see if anyone has any suggestions on how to correct my pups behaviour When we first got our BC (we got him at 8wks but is 5 months now) you could lay down near him and he wouldnt care and he would often just go to sleep, but about after 3 weeks or so he has taken laying down near him as a sign to play fight (i assume laying down to him is an act of be submissive??), he runs ups, pounces then starts biting hair and ears. He also does this (go the ears) if you try and hug him (doesnt always react this way tho). Also if he is lying down you can pat him on his head and face but if you touch his torso he mouths your hand and nips. Naturally there is an easy fix, dont lay down near him, dont hug him, and dont pat him on the torso. But if anyone has any suggestions i would be glad to hear them and give them a go Cheers
Jetty
Maybe try the obeidence part with food to teach him not to do these things? Like if you are laying down and he comes at you tell him to sit and reward him? just a thought.
Erny
Handle him in a manner (calm-assertive) and in a way where you can touch those areas but simultaneously prevent him from mouthing. There's no 'special' hand-hold position so I hope you understand what I mean. Otherwise, it would be easier to show rather than describe. My boy would do similar (it's normal) so I just made it so that I could do these things and where - whilst he might try - he was unable to mouth me. He got used to it and doesn't worry about it now. It is important that you get your puppy used to these things whilst they are little and not as strong as they're going to grow up to be. For various reasons - being examined by the Vet is just one of them.
puggy_puggy
Give him a toy to chew on instead of your ear.
