Heartworm For Puppy?

Provided the puppy is no older than 6 months of age, you can start heartworm treatment at any time.

And definitely monthly treatment, it is far safer than the annual injection for many reasons.

I agree with Ellz, not yearly injection as too many dogs have died from this overseas.

I buy Daily Dimmitrol for my Collies(200mg) and for about $40 I get enough tablets(1000) to do me 500 days, look up The Vet Shed or Pet Network for these.

It is usual to start monthly heartworm at 12 weeks of age - I give it on the first of each month so it is easy to remember.

I buy Heartguard Plus Chewables (monthly) which has a month each way in protection ie. if you give it on 1 June then it will retrospectively cover any heartworm contracted in the month of May. (Probably other monthly heartworm medications do the same thing but I am unfamiliar with other brands.)

So in theory if you started at 12 weeks of age it would be covering the pup from 8 weeks of age, if you get my drift.
