Skye2
Yes I give flaxseed oil to my pups as well as to my horses. I always feed human grade flaxseed oil. I but a small bottle of 250ml from Woolworth health food section for about $4. I give each dog about 1 tsp a day. The horses get 20ml a day. You could give crushed flaxseeds as well if they will eat it. Great for coat and as a joint supplement for the horses, dogs too. It is full omega 3 and 6. My old joints are a bit on the creaky side and all the dogs and Gussy Cat are getting on in years. I should start on it for all of us.
snuffles
Ouch! Silly me, I FORGOT that human flaxseed and dog flaxseed are the same (flaxseed!). I bought special dog flaxseed for big bucks. LOL. And its not even liver flavoured. But yay, will add that to my baby's food. She has been having some dandruff in the dry weather and the oatmeal shampoo was a bit too harsh for her. (supposed to be gentle, not!)

shepherdpower
I've given my dogs flaxseed oil for some years, but apparently the cold-pressed flaxseed oil is the recommended one for them. I got that info. from a really great site that has so much information for all different complaints, and is totally committed to natural food and remedies for animals and humans : http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/ Have a look, it's really interesting.... arawnhaus
I have thought about using it, haven't got around to it as yet but will definitely get some one day. ATM I have a product called sprint oil, it is pretty good for coats etc my dogs haven't gained extra weight from it but I have heard it being used for that before. Might get some today. yellowgirl
Any breeders here use flaxseed to improve coat and skin texture? Snuffles, do mean flaxseed itself or flaxseed oil? The seeds won't be of any benifit, they don't get digested and will just pass straight through. Olive oil is good too, and I've heard of quite a few people using coconut oil. Also fish has lots of natural omegas
