angelsophie
Okay guys looking for some age appropriate treats for my boy. He is an 11 week old Havanese (small dog). He hasnt been interested in his puppy kong much with kibble in it. I havent wanted to bomard him with too many new tastes since he's been here 2 weeks tomorrow as I didnt want to upset his lil tummy. So what do you recommend for fillings? Tonight I put some four paws chopped into it that seemed to get his attention for a little while. Also I am after new treat balls/treat toys. Any recomendations for toy rotation? We have the kong wubba, the puppy kond a small tennis ball, squeeker toys oh and his fave very expensive toilet rolls! TIA Not a treat toy, but a nice chew toy is the Busy buddy bouncy bone. I got mine from Dstore and it's been very popular: http://dstore.com.au/pets/other-pet-toys/1...32,55,0,00.html the same company also has a jug-a-tug, twist'n treat ball, and a chuckle bone that dispenses treats. I just thought I'd mention this website as I found them quite cheap and super quick with deliveries. But as you have found out the most expensive toys are not always the favourites, and you could also improvise you own: * make a "xmas cracker" out of a kitchen or toilet paper roll with treats hidden inside * put some kibble in an empty slightly crunched up plastic bottle (I guess for a havanese you're better off starting with a small soft drink type bottle * organise a treasure hunt for him when you're away: treats hidden under turned plastic cups, under a towel, etc etc Have fun with your new pup! Red Fox
oohh the Tug-a-Jugs are good! Until your dog works out how to turn it upside down and empty the lot must try putting some larger treats in mine The Kong Stuff-a-Balls are good too, gives them something to roll around and work for their dinner. When ours got too easy for Kei I strung it up to the top of the run with some elastic cord and now he has to jump and pull on it to make the treats come out, he loves it. The Kong puppy paste seems to work well for getting puppies interested in the Kongs (it's chicken flavoured), my dog really enjoyed this when we first brought him home, although I only ever bought one can of it before we moved on to cheese spread. Some dogs like peanut butter in there too. You could also try stuffing a piece of dried liver treat in the small hole at the top of the kong. The puppy will spend hours trying to pull it out. My dog also liked melted cheese on his dental kong. You just put some cheese in the grooves (you can put liver treats or kibble in there too) and then pop it in the microwave until it melts, cool and then give it to the pup There's heaps of toys around but I found that varying the treats works better than varying the toys in most cases
Guest Ams
Try cheap items like the cardboard from toilet rolls with ends folded over and kibble inside to make bon bons. Small plastic drink bottles with holes cut in. The more/bigger the holes, the easier it is to get the kibble out. They also just love the crackle sound when then play with the empty bottle. Remember to take the lid and the coloured plastic ring off the bottle so puppy doesn't choke on it. Most of us have a constant supply of these and there is no expenses and no tears if it gets lost.
