CBL
Oscar has a small gouge in his side (Patch told him off but accidently connected with him as Oscar was on his blind side). It heals over, but then he licks it and picks the top off again. I was hesitant to put anything on or over it to try and keep it dry and aired but is this the best option if he is opening it up again once a day? Its not showing any sign of infection so far but I don't want to give it the chance to either.

puggy_puggy
Stop him licking it. It will never heal. Put an elizabethan collar on him so he can't get to it. Bath in warm salty water. Dry and apply some betadine.
:ange:
I've heard about this 'purple spray' stuff which you can put on cuts and things to seal them so the dog can't lick it. I haven't used it personally but I've heard good things about it.
CBL
Thanks guys - I certainly stop him whenever I catch him, and when he has his coat on he doesn't touch it - but after a while his coat drives him mad too. Will apply some salty water and betadine and if he continues to pick at it then he is going to have to sulk with a bucket head.
